Any map templates?

I couldn't find anything doing a google search, so I thought I would ask here.

I am new to mapping, in fact I have only made a floor with some walls. I would like to have something I can log into steam and walk around with to get a sense of size, not to mention I might learn better if I have something to go off of.

Are there any framework / templates out there?

Not necessarily a whole huge working map, but something I can download a few samples of "not quite finished" but not compiled maps, and then alter and change them?

go to the tutorial resources section you can find lots of neat stuff there.

Welcome to mapping and we all started with the one room :)

Just remember to use an info_player_start (to put in a player model) - it will give a dimension at the start as to how big you're making things relative to a player size when in the game. This will help you a lot at the begining to recognize components in the game

You basically learn it by:

Tutorials,
Decompling other maps - to find out how something is done - not to copy or modify
Asking others
Trial and error <<< Did I mention error? LOL

There is another thing that can be usefull when you want to learn mapping and feel dimensions. That are MiPs (Maps in progress) on fpsb. All mips are either canceled maps, tutorial references or some very oversized prefabs. They might contain bugs sometimes but when searching long enough you might find something usefull.
