Finding cz2.bsp?

This has been bugging me for a week or so now. I am trying to recreate CZ2 so I can re-introduce that style of ctf + area control. However I have a central problem in that I am not entirely sure how big the original map was.

I have drawn out all the rooms on grid paper, using the convenient grid texture that cz2 had in all the rooms, so I know the basic paper dimensions. I just dont know what the translation is into actual maps size.

I have already scratched half a map because I realized that the scale I was using was too small. I have started again, making it all bigger but it still seems slightly too small to me.

I was hoping that i could just try and decompile the original cz2.bsp and therefore figure out the basic dimensions but I cant find the damn thing on my computer. I can run it on the old Half-Life i still have but I cannot find it anywhere in my folders. I can't even run a search and find it.

I have scoured the net as well hoping to find it downloadable somewhere but no luck thusfar.

Should I just give up and hope my scaling is close enough or should i fix this before I get too far along?

Whats particularily annoying to me is that I know that cz2.bsp should be in the folder Half-Life\tfc\maps but the damn maps folder isnt even there. I tried searching hidden folders too, even though it shouldnt be hidden, but nothing.

Ah many thanks boojum Snark.

Yeah I ran it many times Milktoast, taking lots of screenshots so i can judge heights and stuff. I figure I should create the basic layout first and then move on to TF2ing it. The TFC version is way too boxy and boring by the new standards so I'll have a lot of work ahead of me to make it acceptable.

If I were you I would only use the decompiled one as an early reference. because of various new factors it wont play as well. so you are better off making it from almost scratch.

Aaarrrgh! Well the GCFscape thing worked perfectly (cz2.bsp was hiding in the pak0 file btw) but now I can't get the VMEX thing to decompile. I can get vmex.bat to run but when i go to decompile the command box just flashes real fast than vanishes. No decompilation occurs. Do yall know if VMEX is not yet compatible with Vista?

I tried running the whole thing thru the command box but it gave me an error saying that vmex was not a valid file to run or some such crap. Oh well, guess it has to fight me at every turn huh?

Yeah Youme, I don't really want to use the old map, all I need to know frankly is the dimensions of the spawnroom. Once I know that I already have the dimensions of all the other rooms written down, so I just figure out the scale for one room and I can easily figure the rest out.

I did the same thing with Crossover2 when I first started it. I would open the original then my map, and look at proportions over and over and over.

Basically you need to go download hammer 3.5, open the old decompiled version in there, then save it as the new version before it will open in Hammer 4.

And I am not sure Vmex works on the old bsp files, I think its only HL2. It has been so long since I had to do it for my map that I cannot even remember now. Make sure you read the readme for Vmex, you MUST have the java runtime environment installed for it to work.

Ah, an older decompiler...the search begins, I'll let yall know if i have any luck.

Edit: Success! Took two tries but something finally worked. Kinda. Apparently BSPViewer will show me the map, but none of the actual distinct brushwork. However, it does give me a coordinates program which I have to assume are analagous in units to the Hammer ones. Via that and some complex subtraction I can figure out how big the rooms are. And what do ya know? My educated guess was pretty damn close. Huzzah!

Thanks again all.

I don't believe this is the case. I can open my old CS, TFC, and DoD maps in the newer Hammer just fine. Check the drop down list in the Open File dialog for older map file formats.
