The artpass contest had one glaring problem: Everyone who entered and didn't win had a map that no one would ever play, no matter how good it was. And that was after ending up with twice as many winners as we had planned. Usually if you don't win a contest, hey, at least you made something and it might still be worthwhile or at least you could always improve it.

I personally treated it as much-needed detailing practice, but we got some damn fine entries that will never get played again. Hell, we got some damn fine assets that will never see the light of day anywhere else, too, although that's mainly the entrants' fault.

The issue would be lessened a little by the fact SFM exists now and I'm sure people would love using the other detail entries as set pieces for their stuff. People also really like remixes of maps they love, like abandoned upward, so if you put it on the workshop people will eat it up even if it isn't a winner. That's just what I think

Putting this out there, since Pi day is coming up we should have a 3.14 hour contest B)

I can't imagine what the timer would have to look like...

I have an idea for a contest.
A template map with dev textures, no detail, and minor to major unbalances will be given for those who enter the contest. The mappers will need to give detail to the map and fix the unbalanced parts within a span of 5-15 days. Mappers must also give a name to the map. When mappers finish the map, they must submit the map to the downloads section under the tag "Edit Contest". After the 15 day period, 3 winners will be picked and will be able to keep their map on the downloads section while others have theirs deleted from the section, but have accessible download links from the database in a thread.
Wasn't there an Artpass Contest a long time ago?
