This feels weird to me. Pauling is late twenties-early thirties, maybe late thirties, but you're saying she was born 37 years before the start of the decade TF2 was set in.

In addition it would have been a Big Deal for a woman not to have taken her husbands name in the 1920s, I suspect.

However what is all this maths FOR? How are you communicating this backstory to the player and - given that it's more than exists for basically all other maps in total - why?

Well, if Pauling was born in 23, that puts her in her 40s/50s by the time of TF2... and she doesn't look like she's 40-50.

Well the Administrator is old as hell and being kept alive by Austrailum. Who's to say Miss Pauling wasn't being kept alive by the same means, only difference she was younger when she started being 'treated'. If she's going to be an assistant, might as well preserve her while she is young and fit.

Please dont just disregard legitimate concerns. I see people do this and I have done this myself but its not a good thing to do. Sword brought up a good point - you dont need any backstory that isnt conveyed through the maps detailing. People want to play tf2, not read a leaflet about the backstory of your map.

Its great that you are enthusiastic but i'd say try put the enthusiasm into making a great map rather than trying to make more tf2 lore.

My concern with backstory is that it's an extra constraint on your work that you don't need. Not only are you trying to make a fun map (and think about ALL the things you need to do to make it fun) and detail it well (and think about ALL the things you need to do to make it pretty) you ALSO have to hold in mind your backstory and how that affects the map. Inevitably you're going to have to make compromises to gameplay or fun for the backstory, and unless your backstory is really clearly communicated (which will mean MORE compromises) then there's no value in that, since players won't understand why.

Plus you have people like me who couldn't give two fudges for the retrofitted tf2 lore and won't play your map differently even if you do make an elaborate lore abiding story.

aka 95% of the entire TF2 playerbase
