I want to create a payload map, but I do not know how to align the mining track props. The picture below shows the closest I've been able to align two props. Below this picture is a list of solutions I've tried. Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Unsuccessful options:
  • Lowering grid snap size to 1.
  • Snap to Grid in Hammer (and similar transformation options).
  • Browsing payload pages on developer.valvesoftware.com.
  • Browsing Mapping Questions & Discussion.
  • Browsing payload/Hammer YouTube & Google pages.

Hold ALT while moving it around and you can take if off grid. This is okay because it's not brushwork.

Assuming the tracks are on a displacement floor, you might be able to get away with bringing up the displacement and having it cover up the tracks. I think Valve does this in a few maps.

Go look at Valve's payload maps like Badwater or Goldrush. Their payload tracks are misaligned, sometimes have a gap of many units. I bet you never noticed before.

Players of your map won't either.

It doesn't matter all that much with tracks, but if you have such issues with, say, handrails - check rotation. Sometimes models end up rotated with .5 degrees or something and it will cause the model to not align properly with others.
