First! If you want to create a custom skybox, read: This thread by Rexy (click).

Drawing a skybox from scratch is very fun and really makes you have control of your environment settings. But once you're done and find that the sky actually looks like a large cube/box with your 6 images slapped on the inside (visible seams and crooked clouds) you quickly lose any entusiasm you had.

I've done this, twice.
And I have now finally taken the time to do 'something' about it, It's not a perfect solution, but atleast it gives some kind of guidance to how the images are disorted to form the illusion of a dome, instead of a cube.

Look at that, it's great. Trust me.

I don't have much more to say so without further delay:

I hope this helps someone. I did not spend a whole lot of time on this since the images were generated using another program, but I think making it available in this form (template) is a lot easier.
I could not find a automatic photoshop filter/transform that would replicate this 'shape', if anyone does manage to find such a tool. Be sure to share it! :)

That's odd, it doesn't distort the bottom?

Well, it does, but considering most valve skyboxes doesn't even include that part of the texture I didn't want to clutter it up too much.
If requested I can easily provide versions where the bottom is also wireframed. (just flip them 180) :)

I remember trying to do this and I couldn't find any sort of program that would distort an image in this way. So I would ask this question as well.
