Does the texture resolution in the browser matter?

This may be a very dump question, but I just got it while working with hammer. Does it matter which resolution I choose in the texture browser. I personally always use the 256x256, but does the textures are better in-game if I would use 512x512? Or is this just the size it's displayed in the browser?

That's just how they are shown in the browser. You can choose smaller like 128 to see more textures at once, or 512 to see them more detailed. Doesn't affect anything else ever, as far as known.

It's just for the texture browser. Lower the resolution to see more materials at once, make 'em 512x512 to see less materials but see the materials themselves at a higher resolution. Doesn't do anything in-game, the material you're applying to a brush is still at 512x512 or 1024x1024.

On systems without a lot of memory, the size or number of textures shown in the browser can crash Hammer sometimes (but you know, a mosquito sneezing in Madagascar can make Hammer crash sometimes, too). Otherwise as already said, it's purely for your own convenience.
