Sadly I did not have any of those, but what vmx files.Do you have any of these things?
You may be able to recover your work if so.
- Enabled autosaves
- A compiled version of your map
- a .vmx file (in the same folder as your .vmf)
Since hammer is decades old, it's prone to crashing after doing just about anything. Your best bet is to save very often.

Unfortunately, I once had hammer crash while saving the file. Overwrote the map files with 0s. I was able to recover by decompiling the map, but it was still pretty inconvenient.
Have you actually checked C:\HammerAutosave? Auto backup is enabled by default and saves a copy every fifteen minutes. You can open these files using Hammer's File > Open command.Sadly I did not have any of those, but what vmx files.
