will the tf2 team ever address the fact that not all its players have a perfect ping? For example, I love to play team fortress 2, but i live in the middle of nowhere USA, so the internet gives me a rage-inducing 666 ping to play with, so whatever i do will always be 1 to 2 seconds behind anyone else and that can make for a very aggravating experience.

now i can already think of a few solutions:

1: make it so the game camera and model are just as slow as the hit box

2: put high ping players in matches with other high ping players

3: which is a long shot that will never be implemented: make a class that requires very little fast movements

or if possible, make servers closer to high ping areas

anyway this was just to get it off my chest after a very bad game with a certain pyro

There is nothing valve (or any other game developer) can do about this because the internet isn't light speed yet. I suspect it might be just your personal internet speed though, because I (US east coast) get about 100 ping on US west coast servers.

put high ping players in matches with other high ping players
This would just increase the problem exponentially, since info has to be sent slowly from one high-ping player to the server, then delivered to another high-ping player.

Edit: You seem to think ping is a static value, which is incorrect, it's the amount of time it takes for you to communicate with the server. That will change depending on your internet speed and the location of the server you play on. So I could answer every option on your poll.

i'm literally died senter of america so the ping almost never changes and i have never gone below 589 and 589 is on a severe with no one on it! and yes they can fix it. just move the camera and model back by a second and they hit box will line up

ok you evidently do not understand how ping and lag compensation work

Additionally 600 ping is unnaturally high. Geographically under ideal conditions you should never get more than 500 ping even to the exact other side of the world.

I highly suspect if you do indeed have 600 ping up American servers from in America itself you have bigger internet infrastructure or equipment problems than any game developer could ever touch.

What is your network setup, two tin cans and a string?

You know, with a speaker that sends out your keystrokes/mouse-movements and a microphone on the other end decoding them and playing TF2 with them, you could probably do this. Then just send the image via SSTV back to your tin can.

... someone please do this.

Put a blue portal on the wall of your computer room. Mail the portal gun to a major ISP in New York City with instructions to put an orange portal on their wall. When the portal opens, run the master ethernet cable from your router to one of their switches. Enjoy your <50 ping to the US server.

Or facepalm as your portal disappears because they hit the wrong button.

1: make it so the game camera and model are just as slow as the hit box
It's not the hitbox moving, you're experiencing lag compensation. Short summary:
  • You press forward
  • On your screen you go forward,
  • You send the packet to the server to tell them you moved forward,
  • The computer receives your packet alongside others, then will process what happened. Lag compensation occurs here, if an event happened on one person's screen but not another person's screen, it will favor the high ping player. For instance if you head-shot someone on your screen, but on their screen they went behind the wall, the server "rewinds" understanding your data was outdated, and will reward the attack. https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Lag_compensation
  • The server will send out packets to everyone, including you moving forward.
  • The computer makes the adjustment if there's a difference between what your computer emulated, and what happened
Under the current system, you actually are benefited having a higher ping. Lag compensation does not work for projectile weapons or the pyro's flamethrower, meaning higher ping players find difficulty playing Pyro.

Yrr was right to call you out for saying you have a fundamental misunderstanding of Ping and Lag Compensation that invalidates the entire post.

2: put high ping players in matches with other high ping players
That would exponentially increase the problem, now we're dealing with 4 second delays, not 2 second delays across players. Lag comp will make it a mess.

3: which is a long shot that will never be implemented: make a class that requires very little fast movements
Like Engineer, Or medic? These are the best you're going to get at 666ping without turning into a god damn spectator, if you make a class rely on very little fast movements you essentially make a class that is unfun to play against or -as- because it's stupidly easy to play.

or if possible, make servers closer to high ping areas
If you're getting 600ping, your issue is beyond location, considering I'm getting better ping from Australia on the TF2maps server. Also, servers are independently hosted outside of comp. If you're getting a high ping, you need to pick a server that's closer to you, or host your own.
