Gonna ping @Muddy as she also uses a Mac, and knows how to do it or probably knows of a tutorial. (She's offline right now but in a couple of hours she'll be back online).

I run hammer on my bootcamp partition, and works just fine, since bootcamp works just like a native Windows machine. I'm not sure about wineskin though. Also virtual machines would probably work, but I would recommend using bootcamp, as it gives hammer the most processing power possible.

Bootcamp would be preferable. I'm running Hammer through Wine and although it's functional (surprisingly so, in fact) it's pretty hacky and complicated to set up. I thought about writing a guide for it but I wasn't sure how useful it would be ultimately.

If your Mac uses a Fusion Drive setup (an SSD and a magnetic HD working in hybrid mode to make one large logical volume) be warned that you won't ever be able to adjust the size of your Bootcamp partition without restoring your Mac OS installation from a Time Machine backup. Make sure you give yourself enough space.

If you are short on space, you could install Windows onto an external USB3 or Thunderbolt SSD. You would need another Windows PC, a Windows installation disc image and a copy of WinToUSB. This is what I do.
