i had a glitch with one of my maps. tf2 though i dident haw the acces key. so naturaly i reinstalled tf2. so it could make a new acces key for my maps. but instead of that... hammer refused to start bqs one text file was missing... YEP! not like it could. you know. replace it with a standard one. but nha. companys haw to be dumb. so yha. the error that pops up says "D:/steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/gameinfo.txt is missing" i haw no clue why. i am confused. and haw no /) idea whats going on. so. tf2 would not let me test my A3 map. reinstall tf2. hammer refuses to start. error _/ goes up. and i dont know how to fix it. I DID SAVE MY LEVEL TO MY DESCTOP THO!

You first have to run TF2 at least once before opening Hammer to make sure a gameinfo.txt is even generated.

After running TF2 once, did you try running Hammer.bat in your Team Fortress 2/bin folder? It's meant to set up Hammer with the proper environment so you can use it with TF2.

To verify integrity of game cache:
Go to TF2 properties -> Local files tab -> Verify integrity of game cache
This will fix any files that are missing or corrupt.

To find Hammer.bat:
Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\bin
If you have a Windows computer then the .bat part of the name might not be visible. Look for a file called "Hammer" of the type "Windows Batch File"

There is no need to take a copy of the game from someone else. Not only is that cumbersome and difficult (over 20 gb), you can easily get the files you need yourself.

And the Hammer.bat file is still not there? You are looking in steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/bin/, yes? 'Cause that's where it's supposed to be. Also please tell me you haven't been trying to launch Hammer from Source SDK, because that's been the wrong way to do it for like two years now.
