no matter what i can't do it! can someone please post a link to a tutorial or something! its the one thing i just cant do!

Could you please better specify what's your problem? The info you gave us is just that you can't do of, which is nearly pointless to only say.

when i get it all setup and everything i load up the map and it's completely black!

Giving us the .vmf would be helpful. Maybe the compile log first, if you don't want to release the .vmf

My psychic debugging skills tell me that you used the skybox texture as the material for the brushes instead of the toolsky material that you should have used. The skybox is set in the map properties, not by the brush face materials used.
