Hi I am pretty new to mapping and I am so exited to make a map, I want to create a payload map that has the look of the big house on cp_gorge ( the same textures I mean ) but my biggest problem is that i am so out of ideas right now, I lost my ideas already when i started with the spawn, the big problem is not the spawn itself but outside it, i dont know how to start so I need YOUR help to come up with ideas and tips for my map, one big issue that i have is that I dont know how like form the ground and make holes and stuff... well I know how to do it but its so hard and I always fail so making a map that is outside is hard because a totaly flat ground does not look so nice in my opinion, so I need help, I got a few things that I want to ask about:

How do I get the props from the invasion maps?

Is there annywhere there I can put my map for others to see so they can help me?

How do I create roads that are not totaly in a straight line?

If you can answer my questions I would be so happy!

Feel free to add me on steam to help me with my map, i dont bite, steam name : mazata

How do I get the props from the invasion maps?

They were never publically released, so you would have to bother bang or for them.

How do I create roads that are not totaly in a straight line?

I'd do it by making the brushes then vertex editing them somewhere in the middle to make it become crooked, if that is what you mean.

sometimes a displacement is a good option

You're already here! See this guide for info on how to add your map to the website. Once your map is uploaded and fully playable, you'll want to get it playtested. Join the TF2Maps.net Steam chatroom and add your map to the testing queue. (I don't remember exactly how to do it, but someone in the chatroom should be able to tell you.) Once the next test happens, people will play through your map and give you feedback so you can improve it. Read through this guide to find out how to get your map playtested.

Unfortunately, we can't really help you think of ideas. Everyone has that problem, it's alright. Have you tried drawing out your map yet? (Like on paper?) That can be helpful. And keep in mind that the only way you'll improve is by practicing.

Welcome to the site!

Here's some links/thoughts:

- Gorge is generally considered to be Alpine theme. If you're having trouble finding specific textures, you can look at the decompiled version of the map in hammer.

dont know how like form the ground and make holes and stuff... well I know how to do it but its so hard
- Would HIGHLY recommend putting the time in and learning displacements (and making holes in them)! Unless you make all your maps completely indoors (not recommended) you'll need them eventually. However the first few versions of your map, it's alright to use regular flat brushes to approximate the terrain.

-For ideas of how to form a payload map's layout, play lots of upward and badwater, paying attention to how the geometry around the track is. Also reading this should be helpful.

You're going to have to think up ideas on your own, bud. Honestly, just waiting around and doodling is probably the best way to make a layout from scratch. Having a few days of not thinking of maps is a good idea too, it resets your brain.
