Today, after an overnight update to windows 10 (already had it, just software updates), I opened up hammer only to be horrified that the grid and 3D view was blank. I clicked around to make sure that it wasn't a startup glitch, and spawned in a brush to see if it was a glitch. I didn't save the map in its blank state (hopefully). I really need a fix because I want to get to the detailing phase before school starts. I have one other version of this map, which only contains red's spawn and the completed control points. Screenshot of it's last compile (first screenshot aka Frontline! mapping project)

There is no direct fix for this bug, but you can usually recover your work from the vmx backup file found in the same location as your vmf. Simply move the vmf somewhere else (to avoid name conflicts) and change the vmx extension to vmf. If that fails, you can also try decompiling the bsp using BSPSource. Though decompiling isn't a perfect process, most of the original map will be intact and the rest should be easy to fix. I would suggest setting up autosaves in Hammer's options menu in case this happens again in the future.

BUT WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT CLICK YES WHEN HAMMER TELLS YOU IT'LL RESAVE THE FILE WITH INVALID SOLIDS REMOVED AFTER LOADING YOUR DECOMPILED MAP. Because for whatever reason, that also destroys all prop_static entities. Because Hammer. Nothing will be changed about your map if you click no on that screen.

Oh shit. Changed vmx to vmf, still blank. Gonna have to do a decompile.
