I know there was a thread about this before, but I cant find it.
I wanted to put in some posters promoting my gamecommunity's website, as well as tf2maps.net. Would this be acceptable? or is this truly a nono? They are designed completely in tf2 style, and fit the theme.

what are your oppinions on this? I dont wanna ruin an otherwise good map with something many could consider crap.

My personal opinion: adverts suck, a map is a work of art and you wouldn't slap an advert in the corner of a painting so why would you for a map?
However, certain people/organisatiosn definitely deserve some kind of thanks to do with making the map, but a big banner in a map isn't the awy to do it, some sutle way needs to be found, like a custom tf2 style poster with their details on or something.

youme hit it on the head. adverts i think are ok, as long as they blend in. not just some nasty 'in your face' crap, but a nice tf2 style poster in the spawn would be cool.

I'd even be tempted to say that in the spawn is too much of an over used place for adverts, even if they blend in. You want your advert to dissapear into the background but still be clear so I'd put it near (but not in) a key location in the map, say a capture point for example. You don't want it actually on the capture point where people will get it in their death stills a lot but you want it near enough that it gets a lot of traffic by it.

If someone stops by it and says 'oh thats really clever' rather than sighing because its just another clan advert (like those brushwork ones in spawn rooms.....*shudders*) then you've got it spot on.

I just only quickly slapped something together in photoshop, but I'm not quite sure it's tf2y enough yet :s

sorry no ingame shots, Im at work can't compile here :(

the big billboard seems to big when I look at it now :p back to the drawing table for something more modest :p
the billboard one looks good. need to see the lighting for it. maybe add light right above it?

I'm opposed to them in final releases, it's just unprofessional in a way. I'm fine with "This map is in dev" signature overlays during alpha and early beta releases, but clan adverts really ruin the ambiance you want to achieve in a TF2 map.

not a clan, community, :p
I just tested with 3 fellow admins and they didnt even noticed the add until I pointed it out to them :p so I guess thats a good sign.
this is what it looks like ingame:

be fair. if its crap or to annoying it will go. I will listen to reason ;)
