necropost warning

rather than continue bumping that five-year-old thread, it seemed more appropriate to bring any remaining discussion to a new thread.

this add-on is one i've seen on a lot of xenforo sites, and as far as i can gather, doesn't have any glaring issues. it provides a simple warning and checkbox under the post box informing users that the thread is x old and verifying that they are confident in their necropost. some users seemed to be in support of such a notification, but the impact is relatively negligible and would presumably come down to whether the staff decide another add-on sitting in the forum backend is worth (hopefully) avoiding abysmally irrelevant threads being needlessly resurrected.

I don't see how this could do much harm.

You apparently can't see the images on that forum link if you're not logged in.

Either way, I'm pretty ambivalent about it, and I'm usually the type to notice and be annoyed by little inconveniences like people bumping a thousand year old post. That doesn't happen often enough to really bug me enough to care. Oh, wait, should I have NOT posted in that case?

I don't see the issue with anyone posting on really old threads, and I don't think it should be in any way discouraged.

It can only help, especially if someone is having a problem and finds an old thread about it when they search. If someone posts the solution or anything else relevant to the situation years later, even if the original poster isn't around to see it anymore, it will help everyone else that searches for it.

I agree with wiseguy. I'd rather see staff simply lock threads (such as the 96 Polish politicians dying) that aren't actually bumped in a useful way.

I would modify the message to be more of a friendly warning, like "in case you didn't notice how old this thread was" etc. and pointing out that if a long-forgotten thread is bumped to the top, people are likely to get confused and think it's new. Sometimes people can stumble across old threads by accident when they were searching for something else, and not realize it's old because they're conditioned to think "near the top of any page = new", so this would be mainly for those cases.

Necro bumping here to make a point.

This seems like a very useful and appropriate feature for the site, and it's something I was about to suggest in my own thread, in response to recent necro bumps. After the recent site issues are resolved, is there any reason why TF2Maps.net doesn't incorporate this add, specifically in the way Pocket describes?

honestly who cares about necro bumps

I should have been more specific: I'd like this addition mostly for those making necro bumps. Often a necro bump will consist of a question or small comment geared for the thread's author. This addition could keep everyone on the same page a lot easier.

More of a "some positives, no negatives" suggestion.
