.... This year..

Valve's class-based multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 won't receive its next major update until next year, marketing VP Doug Lombardi has informed Shacknews.

"Well, it won't be this year," said Lombardi when asked about the next update. "But we're going to keep evolving TF2. Once Left 4 Dead wraps, you'll hear us clamoring more about [the next TF2 update]."
Lombardi made the statement after speaking on the impending release of Left 4 Dead (PC, 360), which saw contributions from numerous Team Fortress 2 team members as development of the cooperative zombie-killing shooter entered the final stages.

Since TF2's arrival last year, Valve has provided numerous free updates to owners of the PC version, adding new modes and maps along with class-specific achievements and unlockables for the Medic, Pyro and Heavy classes. The studio has pledged that all of the title's nine classes will eventually be updated with new weaponry.

The marketing VP also reiterated that bringing the existing Team Fortress 2 updates to Xbox 360 is "definitely in the plan," though no timeline was offered as to its release.

*hiss* This means it'll be several months into next year, which means WAY too long in this quasi-crappy state. However, I hope it is only talking about "major" updates and they release a fix for the winbombs sooner. :(

Understandable, but very disappointing. I was expecting at least one more major update before Christmas.

I'm not too worried about this. They probably don't want to overshadow l4d and that's understandable and with the upcoming release of l4d and Fallout 3 I am not going to have much free time anyway. The longer they work on the update, the better we can expect it to be.

I was hoping that within a few weeks they would tell us which class would be updated next.

It's the least they could do considering the length of time we're going to be waiting for it.

Waiting will make it that much more sweeter. Besides, I already pre-ordered L4D. :D

I can only hope, though doubt that it will happen, is that valve releases multiple classes for the next update.

That would be a GREAT way to do it. It would also help reduce the "team full of Medics" problem we've seen in past updates.

wait until next year? At least Feburary then. It wont be coming out sooner than that.

Honestly I enjoyed the vanilla TF2 perfectly fine. All I thought I was getting was in the box. (except for bug fixes and additional tweaks). I never expected class updates and new weapons. I would still be playing it now even if it never had class updates.

I played the XBOX360 Version for months before switching to PC and they don't even have the bugfixes yet. If you log on to any game it is riddled with people glitching into the sky, under the ground, setting up sentries in walls or sniping through walls. It's a completely different game now.

I believe that has to do with Microsofts' policy regarding online content, mostly being that anything that you make downloadable, Microsoft gets some kind of fee, and that thats been a major disincentive for Valve to updated their game.
