So... Using a map name already in use

I'd say no, plus theres so many great names out there.

You didn't say he'd used exactly the same name, you had something like ctf_spit_revamped in chat earlier.

If its not exactly the same filename and its not been decompiled and recompiled I'd say its fine, although if one already exists that is better than yours, yours will dissapear
But, if its exactly the same filename, no matter what the quality or how they were made the guy who did it second has to change his, no exceptions.
If its got a different filename but is the same map (ie a decompile/recompile) and it wasn't theirs then its up to the owner of the original map wether its ok or not, which I guess for most of us here it isn't.

That sucks that he's using the same name.

Really all it does is add confusion to the process. All the way down the line. It's possible your map could get comments meant for his. If people like yours but hate his they will get confused and people might drop servers when they see yours coming up (thinking it's his).

I might have yours DLed and when his comes up in rotation I'll wonder why I have to DL again...

I did stuff for the Thief community for years. We have something like 500-600 maps out there. There is only one instance that I know of that 2 authors used the same name.
There should be enough words out there to name every map something unique.

I saw another post where a guy was gonna name his map switchback. I told him there was one and he was OK renaming it.

I don't see why anyone would fight over that, I'd let him know that your map is already named that and see what he says.

You can't expect every mapper on the planet to scour the internet to double check names. Accidents happen. You could have approached him differently. Maybe learn a lesson from this.

Further, calling for a forum war is pretty poor behavior. Don't drag TF2maps into your petty bickering.
