topic says my problem.

I am trying to get my spawnroom finished up, but when I try to buildcubemaps with the lumberyard skybox, it doesnt work. I try it with other skyboxes and those dont work either. it only works with the default HL2 sky, and then it doesnt even give me reflections, but the purple checkers are gone.

I put my compile log into the interlopers error checker and it says that I may have typed the name in wrong.

is it this?: sky_trainyard_01

cause thats what I set and it didnt work

Heh, you're fine. It just means that you actually need to put cubemap entities in your map, tie them to appropriate surfaces were needed (reflective stuff like water, glass, etc), and then build them after you have done a full compile.

Basically, don't worry about it.

thats the thing, I do have cubemaps in my map, and I type buildcubemaps into the console. I have used cubemaps before, so I am pretty sure they are in good locations. I dont know what you mean by tying them to specific things though.

In case it matters, I have a reflective floor and a medium amount of glass in it.

usually when you buildcubemaps the tf2 that auto-opens after you compile will not work, you need the resolution set to higher when you buildcubemaps...not sure of the exact numbers though

search cubemaps on the forum, your bound to find something useful

i have the same "problem", when i load my compiled map the 1st time, there are checkers on refl. surfaces, the i do buildcubemaps, then i have to restart tf, then the checkers are gone, but when i close the game then and get back in, the checkers reappear

you don't need to restart tf2...just the local server...if you restart tf2 they probably will not save...

I've been having some screwy cubemap issues myself. Doing the EXACT same thing I used to do no longer builds the cubemaps for me proper. The purple boxes would go away but my glass would turn bluish.

What I do now is set resolution to 800x600, set mat_specular 0, than buildcubemaps.

This at least fixes all my textures so they don't look like an acid trip.

It would be kinda cool to have a list of console commands in exact order (and what they do). Even on the dev wiki it just says "buildcubemaps."

Perhaps someone could do the "complete dumbass noob guide to building cubemaps" over in the tutorial section.
