Vis times have increased

Ok, I was compiling in 5 hours (complete) before I optimized my map :)

I smile cause the first time I did it it took 4 days and only got to 4 before I terminated the vis.

Now after compiling for 2 days D: I got to 9.9 :cursing: when I terminated it.

Isn't optimizing supposed to speed up vis, game play or both?

I also have a cave made up of displacements sitting in one cube - I'm assuming that hint brushed in there are wasted correct?

See what's making a ton of visleafs.

Optimizing should speed up both compiling and running the map.

I can do that? I thought it was just for leaks - how do I use it fo visleafs?

POintfile is for leaks.

Portalfile shows you how things are beingbroken up in vis. If you have some complex stuff that doesn't block line of sight, such as a 32 sided pillar, that can be turned into func_detail and the vis component will be skipped.

4 days? That is insane. What sort of PC are you using to make a compile take 4 days? I pushed the limits of hammer too 100% in some areas and the map took less than 2 hours to compile.

What optimisation methods have you undertaken? You mentioned hint brushes. How about func_details?

Also yes, hint brushes are very much wasted in your cube of displacements. But that's not to say have a few. It all depends on the entrances inside the cube.

LOL took 4 days cause I'm such a hack lol completely rebuilt my map - now down to 5 hours but then optimized it bigger D:

Hard to day for func_details - they don't stop vis right? imagine the aztec map - where to put them on that map?

When I first did the map vis took 4 days and uncomplete - now it took 1 minute!!!
