Hey guys, brand new here.

I've been playing the game for a couple years and the recent publicity of the Mayann Project has piqued my interest in map making, and would love to give it a shot, I have a lot to learn however!

Also, playing on new maps is one of the best things in this game. Do you guys have any populated servers that run through custom maps, or know of any?

Thanks! :)

Well hello there!

In the TF2Maps Home page,to the right, there's all the servers that run all the custom maps (basically for tests with Gamedays or Impromptus [I think i typed it right... I DUNNO]). So if you want to test some alpha/beta maps,or your own maps, just go there. People can also help you in the Steam Group chat.

And for tutorials, right here you have ALL THE THINGS!,from scaling, stairs and displacements to repacking and packing your own maps, along with some models and a whole gallery full of props and useful stuff for Hammer.

Hope to see your first map pretty soon. o3o

We have our own servers (in the sidebar on the front page) where we have a custom map rotation running, which we take over occasionally to run test sessions on new maps.

Welcome to TF2Maps, we hope you enjoy your stay! Feel free to browse around and do stuff!

Nice meme too, I like to make memes into maps.

From beginner to beginner, I learned the most when mapping during the April fools contest this year. Contests encourage you to try new things and be competitive, and when you are given a theme, inspiration is a lot easier to come by (which tends to be the hardest part for me).

Before you enter contests, of course, you need to know at least how to crate a functional map. I've made maybe 20 maps before I made one that was I only semi proud of. You won't strike gold immediately. However, I am thankful for all of my mapping abortions because they make my brain bigger.

If you don't know already, you can check out UEAKCrash's mapping tutorial series on Youtube- it's how I started and I am eternally thankful : )

It's really fun to get into and test your creativity; you are making a great choice coming here. The community is nice, and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask!
