Best of Both Worlds | Delayed

Project delayed until further notice.

Reason: It seems like me and my partners decided that the design for this map, is not what we want to release to the public. We are currently redesigning the map from the bottom up, and taking the consideration of creating our own prefabs and textures. We decided to also remove any type of music in the map, and for the title of the map. It has been changed. Sorry for wasting you time and please contact me at http://steamcommunity.com/id/Quantum-of-Solace

Edit 1: I have received a notice from Zodiac assuring me that this is a genuine project. So for the time being, please give the usual support and feedback that I've come to expect from this community.

I'm not gonna say rap sucks even though I don't care much for most of it. Some of it I do like. However, I would not use it for a TF2 map. I love hard rock and I wouldn't use that as a map theme either. I only used hard rock once and it was for a gimmick map and it was only a 15 second intro.

Most of the time when we play maps on our server that have background music, people always complain after awhile. It's nice for the first few minutes but then it gets boring and annoying.

Just my 2 cents.

I try to give the benefit of the doubt when I can. If Zodiac would like to contact me, I'd be happy to unlock the thread.

To play devils advocate... why are you snipping comments about dislike of the music? Honestly, that is constructive, I mean if... *counts* 5 out of the 6 people in this thread said they don't like it, maybe there are a lot of people that wouldn't like it, and thus his map won't be as popular.

Because all of said comments were made believing this thread to be a troll. Open Blade made a constructive post in regards to the music.

I'm not going to going to compile just to take screenshots of a unfinished beta. That's lame. Also who will compile their map just to test it? Compile when your complete finished then test it.

I wouldn't call it lame, all mappers do it with almost all their maps. Modelers do it. Professionals release preview content.

I'm inclined to sympethise with Zodiac when it comes to pre-compiles. It's hard to cordon of half finished area's for the sake of a few complimentary images.

How ever, for the sake of error "cleaning", pre-compiles are very important; otherwise you hit a brick wall with getting through error after error, and then bugs in your map.. it's pretty demoralising. The amount of maps i've left because i didn't bother making sure my map would compile at more frequent intervals, and couldn't be arsed to run through the list of errors, or things i have to redo.

edit: Also, for the sake of pleasing the community, images are a must.

You'll get very useful (and important) feedback.

I agree with Open Blade, think carefully when using music in a map. I wouldn't have music looping or playing longer then the first 10 or so seconds of the round. If your map was played several times in succession or put on a server by itself or with 1 or 2 other maps, people would hear the same tune over and over and over again.

What you might do, if you can alter the music to loop nicely at a low volume, is place it in as an env_soundscape in certain small areas.

Any song or melody played repetitively so players can't avoid it is gonna become annoying as hell after a while, no matter what the genre. I already mute my speakers when TF2 is loading to avoid hearing the game's intro music because I've heard it so many dam times.

My apologies. Let me make my reply about the music more constructive. I don't feel that the music matches the feel of TF2. I would LOVE to hear some original music done in the James Bond-ish, spy-techy theme. Like Brandished said though, it would have to be unobtrusive.

Hmmmm, what about placing it around a radio in each of the spawns, or scattered through the map. That way it isn't a constant drone?

You should take a look around at any of the WIP threads around here, people post screenies as they go so they can get critiques and feedback about the gameplay flow and design of their level.

I had the idea of adding Bombtrack (Rage against the machine) in a custom payload game mode. But I removed it because a lot of ppl didn't like the music.

Lol

You're doing it wrong. You test the map while doing it, and then you make the final compile.
