Steam Mobile Authenticator required.

The biggest joke of the century. And they're not requiring people with at least some competitive experience (lobbies or official matches) and/or at least 2000+ hours in the game, so cue the weekend warriors who have no intention of even wanting to improve in the game and only signed up because "lulz iz matchmaking yo".

Does Valve want to make it just pub 2.0?

You gotta test with the right people, otherwise you'll get wrong impressions.

Also if they set up their system correctly, within several games you'll be grouped with people who are actually taking matchmaking seriously. This is assuming that you play seriously as well.
So, yes, matchmaking will be pubs 2.0 in the lower skilled matches, but could be quite interesting in the higher skilled games.

Since when does "being srious" require 2000 hours? Or lobby experience? elitism at it's finest. Beides, if you're s good as you claim you are, this is a ranking system as well.

Geeze louis, they say it's a stress test and while yes, it's competitive beta, it's going to be available to everyone, so they HAVE to test it with a wide range of people for a proper test. This is a wide range of people. If you've been properly following, they've already gotten a group of high level players already.

The Steam Mobile Authenticator thing they've been pushing for a long time due to security reasons, and I don't see why they wouldn't/shouldn't push it here. It can only help your account.

The only reason I don't like this is for people like me who don't have a smart phone. (I know, call me old-fashioned. Or poor.) Other than that, I think it's a good idea that they are pushing for people to make their accounts more secure.

I wouldn't be surprised if the number of people who don't use smartphones in our demographic is a minority. I haven't seen any sort of numbers on that though, so don't quote me.

I think I'm personally good, I meet both theirs and the proposed ones here which everyone is throwing around.

I actually don't use a smart phone but that's because I don't use the phone much so a smart phone plus a data plan would be a big waste of money for me. I do have an android tablet I use for the mobile Authenticator though.

Since TF2 is F2P I imagine there are people who play it who play it because they don't have a lot of extra income for things like games and smart phones. I'm all for additional account security but I think Valve should probably provide some alternate options for people who don't have smart phones or tablets.

I'd imagine the Mobile Authenticator is a safeguard against cheaters and alts.

I'm with you zed, ever since they implemented it I have seen a decline in scammers and phishing however they are coming up with new and cleaver ways. Regardless, It's unlikely that someone will be able to get on to your count info and have access to your phone at the same time since its always on you (or in your house), so its extremely unlikely that people would get away with this now.

Personally, I just use a smart phone with "pay as you go". I never use it online out-and-about as I just generally don't need to.

If someone has a phone, and they scam you, then the entire system that valve made you go through is worthless.

Uh, what. The point of the mobile authenticator is that for anyone to log into your account, they would also need your phone and phone number in order to do so.

It's because accounts with beta passes are SUPER desirable to hijackers, everyone wants in so they'd sell for a ton.

With mobile auth it's harder for them to steal your account.

The thing about mobile authentication, though... doesn't it mean that if you ever lose your phone, you're locked out of your account forever? And if it doesn't, isn't it completely useless at actually protecting your account?
