Jam or 72hr contest discussion

@Crash suggested we have a discussion, so instead of spamming the jam's page I thought it would be easier to have it here.
I agree with crash on the grounds that the jam was a big success, and I did enjoy it.
I support the idea of having 2 seperate contests, one being the winter jam, and the other being a 72hr summer contest.
Having both means that if you dont like the laid back nature of the jam, or vice versa with the competitive-ness of the 72hr contests, your free to luck out and join in on the next one.
The jam would be inviting everyone from the community, as it has before, but the 72hr contest would be strictly mapping, (TF2MAPS.NET Remember?).
Dont get me wrong, I love both that is why I am suggesting this.

I actually think the jam is a straight improvement from the contest. Last summer, the overwhelming number of entries we got proved that the contests have grown too big to handle - we spent almost two months voting on an event that lasted a single weekend. By the end of the voting, nearly everyone was exhausted from playing the same maps over and over, and most of the voters didn't even come close to playing every entry (prompting a few complaints that some maps were underplayed). If we did more contests after the success of the jam, there's no doubt the number of entries would only increase. So I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather not go through that again.

I honestly consider that only Jams should be 72hrs.
I see working for a contest requiring more time than just 3 days.

I would like to do a short-form contest. It would need some tweaking to work, but I like the idea. The jam went very, very well though - everything we wanted to do, we did - so I feel that returning to the contest format would be a bad idea. It would needlessly spoil the connections with other communities we've made, and lock us into another multi-month string of judging.
