Hey Im using a program which i dont think people normally use to create tf2 maps but by me using this program instead of the other one it allows me to get rid of glitches in the game! Anyways on with the map, its called industrial factory simply because its a big factory and each team has there own "inteligence room" so yes like 2 fort you have to capture each others inteligence. It will include 3 floors and within these floors in a special platform where snipers can hang out, also there will be a deep water area just outside the factory, like Hydro there will be alot of airvents around where you can hide in. I plan to upload images A.S.A.P and within about 3 weeks it will be avaliable to download off this site!

In order to make maps, you need to use Hammer, which is part of the Source SDK. You cannot use any other 3D modeling software to make the entire map. You can use 3D modeling software to make models, and only models, that are located inside the map itself.

Apparently many of us don't realize that it is possible to make a map, or at least the brushwork at most, with a 3d modeling program that can export to a ".map" file. As I do think this is a huge detour in mapping, it is possible.

Aside from that, I don't know what else to comment on because of the lack of images.

CTFan tip of the week: If your going to post a WiP thread, have something worth discussing over, such as images or a download-able .bsp to look through. Otherwise it gets filled with irrelevant posts which some consider to be spam.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to use anything other than Hammer when mapping for Half-Life mods, especially if you're going to end up using it towards the end anyway.

If you're worried about the fact that you don't know Hammer very well but you do this other program, you might as well begin learning Hammer now because you can't post pone it forever, eventually you're gonna need to get to grips with it.

Also, where is there deep water in Hydro? Most of it is anckle deep and nowhere near deep enough to put yourself out from fire.

FUN FACT

You CAN map in notepad. Some hardcore CS1.6 mappers sometimes did it... fucking crazy

Fun Fact #2: I've saved hoodoo several times by using notepad to open my map
Fun Fact #3: someone once posted a direct link to their .vmf file so someone could help, when I clicked it instead of downloading it my browser opened it as a text document, I scanned through it and found and offered a cure to their problem.

Fun Fact #4: Sometimes it's even faster to do things with notepad(++) and excel. Like a value that changes by X every copy. It's something that can not be done with paste special.

I did this for a scoreboard i made. (one that can go to an unlimited amount (i needed a few hundred different values on a scoreboard)

The more and more I am on this forum, the more and more I become convinced that you guys must have no lives at all...

It depends. If one intends to get a career in level design then he has a very forfilled life in those regards.

But yes, i would say being able to map in notepad is probably about the time that one should realise he has way to much free time on their hands.

But you could say that to anyone. A guy who designs a flying becycle, as a normal hobbiest, he probably has too much time on his hands, as an engineer.. he's a genious.
