Current running contests should take precedent over everything else on the front page Slider

People have been complaining that there isn't many contestants in the DynCP contest and I think that it not being shown on the front page is a major major reason why. Even I, a person who wanted to participate didn't know that it was actually on (or, was extended) until recently.

Nobody cares about what maps have been added to the showcase after a week or so, and LITERALLY nobody cares about dead contests and community events that are still on the slider as if they are on.
The slider should be setup with this hierarchy:
1. Ongoing contests
2. Ongoing community events
3. Showcase additions
4. Dead contests
5. Dead community events

The way the system works is based on time the post is made, so to keep things in a certain order, we'd have to re-do the featuring of each thing, and thats kind of a hassle. I have moved the 72hr Jam up to the front spot.

I'm okay with coming up with some priority for the slider, maybe not the one you suggested, but a priority list at least. The one thing that I do want to bring up though is that I personally am worried that if we keep the first and front slider always whatever the contest is, then other stuff will not be noticed (much like your contests. We put stuff on the slider so that people can see things. It's a big piece of 'ad space' if you want to think of that way, and I don't want to see the front slot monopolized by one thing for too long. We can always bump things back up, like contests, but having a list of hierarchy you suggested I feel will do more harm than good.

Sorry it took too long to get a reply out, I literally didn't see this until today.

I don't see how changing the order of the slider would've helped more users get involved with the DYNCP contest, if anything a new system is needed such as a notices/contests widget on the front page.

I just got a notification saying the DynamicCP contest is ending soon. Why not give that message at the beginning of a contest too?

Well, the system is in place, it just needs to be utilized more. I honestly wouldn't mind it changing each day

I think its absolutely perfect, nice work

I am going to disagree. It's a bandaid fix. Having your currently running events be displayed on your homepage is far more important that knowing what halloween maps were added to the showcase. There's space being wasted and having complete control over it should be a priority.

But, having a complete monopoly over the first spot on the slider is bad for the subsequent things that come after it, so another solution is needed.

And the notification things are good too.

I once questioned geit as to why I couldn't do 3 letter searches, he then redid the searching system. I don't think changing the format of a slider is beyond him.

I wonder why we need to know that Workshop Wonderland is still going, even though it's been over for ages. I don't see how just having common sense with this slider is going to burn people's houses down. And the only people who give a damn about things added to showcase are the people who got added.

But, having a complete monopoly over the first spot on the slider is bad for the subsequent things that come after it, so another solution is needed.

I'm not asking for a monopoly, I never did. I'm asking for a hierarchy based on common sense + priority on that list. Right now, I think it's much better to have the latest TF2 developments (like the valve competitive group) in front of things like the DynCP contest, because they are more immediate and DynCP is close to ending. But this is where the common sense comes in, 72hr Jam is starting soon, so THAT should take precedent over already running contests / nearly ending contests. I wouldn't mind if DyncCP was like, 4th slot right now, because it is ending soon. But having it not even on the board when you extended it was quite foolish to be completely honest.

Alternatively, there could just be a contest ticker on the front page and you could relegate the slider to being the trash that it is right now.
