Where i can get permissions

So i'm taking on a new task of making a pro version of upward which is more balanced and optimized for competitive. This is my first try at doing this but i feel positive about doing this as i have previous experience on map making and i play this map in comp often.

My issue is i do not know the creators of the original map and would not like to get into trouble for editing and sharing a pro version without there permission to do this. So if anyone know how to contact the publishers or can at least send me there steam account so that i can get into contact with them.

Finally i'm hoping to bring out updates on this project and do some testing of the map on tfcenter as i know i may be biases to a certain class on the map and would not like to change the map to much that some classes do not find it fun to play. I'm saying this as i'm a engie main and i do not wish to make it unfair and unbalanced.

People made already TONS of edited maps without permission (Like upside down 2fort or badwater with crazy textures), so I don't think you need permission

And also that map, what you'll made, will be better than half of edited maps

Does Upward really need to be more balanced for competitive play? It's pretty much THE staple Highlander map at this point.

Also what I hate the most is, when people edit offical maps and don't even know how to compile the lighting properly and end up with the map looking worse then before

The only things that I can think of is the banned tele spot for blu (just making a trigger_hurt or something for the little room there), and possibly blu spies having trouble getting to the red balcony on last. And optimization (if any can be done, which I doubt)

I agree it is a staple of hl but many players cannot play the map with high fps also with the recent nerfs and buffs the map is slowly becoming more and more unbalanced. An example of this is that with the wrangler and rescue ranger nerf it has become harder for engies to hold a strong hold on 1st and 2nd hold. Another example that spys have a hard time getting behind the enemy with the new dead ringer and cloak and dagger. My point is that matchmaking is on the way and for all players to take part and have fun certain parts of the map must be changed. I am going to change to a unrecognizable point but im changing it so every class can have fun. I know it isn't a big issue but as weapons are being buffed nerfed so do maps to truly balance TF2

Dont worry if i dont compile it correctly ill ask for some help. As my ocd will kick in if i don't have the right lighting.

People considered it balanced before the rescue ranger existed, people will cope

But the rescue ranger has become the new meta of all engineers, and in Hl Pl a sentry is the backbone to a strong defense and without it starts to become a weaker defense. Also do you truly want comp engies to become turtles my aim is to make the game fun and turtling is boring and meaningless when it comes to having fun as engie. I have been a comp engie for three seasons know so ill admit that im one sided here but all players need to have fun or theirs going to be a decrease in the player base and comp will become much slower and never develop when matchmaking comes out.

So basically, every edit of official maps ever.

Sometimes I think that's the real reason Valve converted some random brushwork in 2fort into a model, as a shibboleth to mark those who know what they're doing.

I'm not really sure that's something you'd be able to fix. Upward is an extremely tightly wound map. There's about an 8 unit wall between that stairwell on last and one of the flank routes on Point B.

I think those qualify as parody. Which counts as criticism for the purpose of fair use.
