Gravelpit with a Steel twist:
Welcome to Observatory! I was inspired by Steel, but noticed some negativity towards it over it's complexity. I also love Gravel Pit, but wanted to make a map where there was more incentive to defend both A and B.
My goal in Observatory is to have a map with deeper strategic value within a rather simple layout. BLU gets to choose what kind of advantage they want when assaulting C, and RED must shift their forces to counter BLU's assaults. Just remember, a team that only defends C is bound for failure!
I hope you enjoy my first map!

Objective:
- RED team wins by defending C.
- BLU team wins by capturing C before the time runs out.

Other Notes:
- Capturing A opens a path directly to C
- Capturing B destroys RED's bridge to C, and opens additional paths to the control room
- C cannot be captured until either A or B is captured.
- RED team cannot regain control of a point once BLU has captured it.

I did not really want to release another version, but this came with several requests to make Point C easier to defend.

Changes for Version 4:
-Edges of the fences on B are now more distinguishable
-Moved pickups on B more towards defenders
-Removed first floor interior hallways
-Reduced cap time on C

Special thanks to everyone, especially the [-Q-] clan and the Dejavu clan for their continued support.

Are there any images, I can't see any. If not, then you should post some!

Aaah, they just decided to load! Looks very good, the gameplay idea is ALSO very good. So it's a very good.

Start using imageshack, photobucket or flickr, not geocities for image uploads. :)

looks nice.

Although it isn't really an observatory. More of a Missile Base.

I really like the concept you have for the gameplay style.

Wow, this looks incredible for a first map. Bravo!

Though it looks like it might be a bit hard to get onto C, is there more than just that spiral staircase?

Oh man, this looks no less awesome than some of the official maps we have. Like, I can barely believe this is your first map ever. The detailing and stuff looks amazing. Now, I can't tell if it'll play well by just looking at it; we'll have to see. Once it's done and all, I'll be poking and prodding my local server admins to see if they'll get it uploaded to my local server. Kudos to you, Icarus!

After running around it a bit, it *does* look pretty solid.

A few things I noticed:

On the map-info screen, there's the purple-and-black checkerboard missing textures pattern where a "map" or screenshots of the level usually is.

At A, the metal catwalks around the edge (by the pit-of-doom) really could use railings, it looks odd without them. Plus, it could actually warn people that it *is* a pit-of-doom, since it looks like you could drop down and just walk around there normally. Maybe some of those little land-mine warning signs down there could help?

In RED's spawn, the wooden doors that slide open... there's something odd about them. Maybe it's how the doors have the lock on them (making them look like they're not supposed to open), but they open anyway... or how the lock duplicates into two (one for each half of the door) when they open.

Putting it up on my private server, see if I can get some playtesting done.

as for the menu photos, I suggest you redownload the map. I uploaded b1a that fixes it

Yeah, I just noticed it. Thankfully didn't get done uploading the older version to the server.

Noticed in B1 that after the first round was won by the red team the rocket blast effect is still in place, making it virtually impossible to attack C because of the glaring white light and smoke from the rocket. Both teams experienced this.

Players also complained of getting stuck in the Blu spawn area, especially if they spawned on the lower deck.

I will download B1a and see if I can reproduce the rocket blast effect. Great first map.
