Hi all!

A few months ago I bought a new computer and off course a copy of TF2. As I was a big fan of TFC, TF2 could only be better... and it was. I was hooked instantly.

After a few weeks I decided to try and make my own map. I have always loved making my own maps, especially for ancient '2D' games like Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior. But unfortunately I didn't have much experience with real 3D editors like Hammer. Fortunately, I discovered this forum and it helped me a lot with figuring out the Hammer editor.

My map started out as a 'test' from what I could do with the Hammer editor. It soon got bigger and bigger, and nicer (IMHO). It is now playable and almost 'done', so I decided to release it as a beta hoping you guys and gals could check it out and give me comments on how to improve it.

So... I present to you, my first TF2 map: CP_ClashOfTheTitans_B1.

It's a 7 capture point arena-style map with identical sides for RED and BLU. Not too fancy and complicated, just simple and basic. Gameplay is #1!

Things to do:
- minor texture improvements (alignments)
- making a 'real' cliff surrounding the map
- dressing it up a little bit
- converting it into a CTF map when this CP version is 'done'

upload tip: Upload the map to a website that is customized in custom content, so you have more traffic. you can upload it here, or upload it at fpsbanana.com

did you playtested it with friends orso? Because 7 cp's are prob way to much, i think you really need a 32 full server to really play it with encoutering some enemies.
I'll test the map tommorow, this all i can say for now.

rename your map to use all lowercase letters. this is more friendly with linux servers.

Scale up the rock texture so it doesn't repeat so much. Overall I think you need more texture variety, overall it looks bland. Also, make your ground and cliffs our of displacements, then you can make them more organic (and better looking).

Good for a first map though!

love the style of some (the last pic) of your buildings but too many sharp edges, all the buildings look too "perfect", no curves, no damage or dirt (though TF2, style isn't very dirty.)

you might want to throw an inner set of cliffs right infron of the first and turn them into displacements. http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=798

Looks like you also threw the entire map into a giant "box", may make it hard to optimize.

Seriously though, heh, you might consider making it less open. and like Dox said, try to dirty it up a bit, too many hard angles right now.

Might consider making some of the building fit the Red and Blu themes a bit more, maybe some wooden buildings and more Red/Blu decals to show which side has what. Also helps with navigation.

on a push map you really shouldn't have it so open..

however.. that open-ness might work on a ABC style like gravelpit only because its basically done in 4 parts.

with your map at its current state i'd say sniper definately has a huge advantage then soldier, scout, demo etc.. the classes that would get slaughtered would be medic/heavy/engineer.

Personally, I like maps with lots of CP's... but that's a matter of taste

The filename is in lowercase. I only used captials in my post to clarify the name.

@Earl:
I know, there isn't much variety in the textures. Partly because I wanted to keep the 'look' of the map very basic and clean, and partly because I didn't find other textures that fitted the map. Maybe I'll look into it. For now, my focus is on gameplay.

@Dox:
I already considered making some cliffs in front of the buildings. I will definately look into that soon.

@Vander:
Some more decals may help. I'll look into it...

The textures you want to use are named "rockwall" and "rockground"... that cliff texture is not meant to be used for anything, and makes a lot of people cry.

IThere's nothing wrong with uploading betas
You want people to play you're beta, so they can test, give feedback, and you improve.
