I lost it when I saw the announcement live, I seriously did!

Now I just gotta play the original Psychonauts... :)

Edit: Just got it on Steam, I figured I might as well.

I'm happy to see Psychonauts 2 finally coming out but hopefully it doesn't delay the TF2 comics too much since Erik Wolpaw is one of the writers of the TF2 comics and he's going to be working on Psychonauts 2.

But it's Psyconauts 2...
This is literally the only game in my life I've been waiting for.

That's LITERALLY how they are selling this. That sentence right there is exactly what they want you to think. I don't care what you do tbh, play into his hands like a puppet if you want to. But just know you're doing your part in making an already terrible industry even worse by doing so.

If you think mis-managed money is "shit behavior" in the industry... hooo boy, I have stories for you. Unless you're talking about the 3.3mil needed to fund the. If thats the case, then EA is no where near what Doublefine is doing. Do you want to guess how much it cost SkullGirls devs, Lab Zero Games, to add Squigly?
It's 250,000 US dollars.
If you're interested in the breakdown, you can read this REALLY good article written about it here. (warning, this is skullgirls we're talking about. So anatomically oversized... hair. Yea. Hair.)

These things cost money. They're asking for 3.3mil from the community, and presumably 3 times that from their other investors (I'm making a HUGE guess on that, btw). A 12million dollar budget is pretty normal, as I understand things. Witcher 3 was what, a few hundred? Fallout 4 more than 12mil? There is two limiting resources in gamedev: Time and money. You don't have a lot of money? You don't have a lot of time. More money, gets you more time to pay everyone.

If you're going to say why you don't want someone to support Psychonauts 2, a game that MANY people want to see, then you need to explain your reasoning better than "Because it's as bad as EA" or "keep telling yourself that." Those are opinions and the tone you're conveying is rude. Opinions are not facts. If you want to sway someone's view, you back it with facts.

You're twisting my words. I never said that at all.
I'm just saying the guy has a track record of not being good with money / supporting the games he makes. Along with the whole Broken Age using nearly 9 times the amount they asked for, they then tried to get more after scrambling to make an absolute disconnected mess of a second episode. And let's not forget Spacebase DF9, which once again they misused the money and absolutely trashed the game with.
By giving money to people who have a track record of screwing up, you're making it look fine in the eyes of big companies who will use any avenue they can to screw us, just like that Shenmue 3 thing.

Literally 3/4 of this post didn't need to be there. You're talking about completely different circumstances that have NOTHING to do with the discussion at hand. I'm not an idiot, I know games cost money, but you're acting like Double Fine / Tim Schafer are a bunch of babies who don't understand money. Double Fine as a company has been making video games for FIFTEEN YEARS, do not tell me they don't know how to handle money.
Also there are no facts here that will ultimately sway someone who wants Psychonauts 2, nothing I can say that hasn't already been said that will change some fanboys mind about Double Fine, that's just how drones work.
Tim Schafer can do no wrong, Double Fine is at no fault for it's actions, continue to let them mismanage their games.

It was not my intention to twist words. I was pointing something out. Specifically correcting you in saying that 'it's shit behaviour' while providing some background knowledge that you may or may not have known.

To be honest, I have only heard of two times Double Fine has mucked up something that was crowdfunded, Spacebase DF9 and Broken Age. Even with Broken age (their first Kickstarter) they found they could do a whole heck of a lot more with the game, than they originally planned. Thats not poor money management, thats poor scope management, two seperate issues. You yourself were saying, or at least implying that DF doesn't know how to handle money. To me it seems a dash odd that you're now also telling me that they shouldn't be? They aren't intentonally mis-managing money if that is what you're implying. They made 2 'mistakes' by my count. One of which was the first MAJOR kickstarter for a game. With that, there is no way you walk out of that perfectly fine without some growing hiccups. If you do not want to support them for it, sure, I won't stop you. But calling it 'shit behaviour' and comparing DoubleFine to EA is absolutely uncalled for.

Your opinion. I would just persuade against people trusting them to not screw people in some way.
Also DF9 wasn't a mistake, they just stopped development on an unfinished game and slapped v1.0 on top.

I'd just like to add that Tim has always struggled with keeping a lid on his projects. Psychonauts was mismanaged to the point that Microsoft dropped it as a launch title for the Xbox. Activision tried to sue Schafer out the ass for mismanaging Brutal Legend.
Then you have the fiascoes that are Broken Age and DF-9.
You cannot honestly say, with a straight face, that when a developer gets funded almost ten times their projected amount, and then they wind up pissing it away, that that is okay. Poor scope management is poor money management. There are still Kickstarter backers who have yet to receive their rewards, and they probably won't ever get them, either.
And then you have DF-9, which is just shameful. Double Fine dropped it because it wasn't selling well enough in Early Access to warrant production costs. That is appalling.
Yes, I love Tim Schafer. Almost everyone does. He's had his hands in a lot of great projects over the years. But those hands are also unreliable, and until I see Psychonauts 2 on the table I'm not gonna put much stock in it.

Man, drama just follows Doublefine around like Pig-Pen's dust cloud.

Give money or not, but whatever way you feel about this, it is going to get funded. My feelings about Double Fine does not stem from their "mismanagement" of money but from other things. I've loved every game made by them and can't wait for what else they make. I won't be giving to this campaign, but I'll likely be purchasing the game when it hopefully eventually comes out.

I was especially excited to see Erik Wolpaw (of Portal fame) working on this again. I also love the general staff at Double Fine, especially after watching the Double Fine Adventure documentary. My feelings on Tim are extremely mixed but I truly hope this ends up being as great as the first one. A good game is a good game, no matter who makes it.
