Devil's half-acre

Another map named after some desert environment somewhere in america.

what I did today: http://www.flickr.com/photos/28746141@N08/2876249146/
I'm aiming to have the majority of the map blocked out by the end of the week even though I've already started detailing the very first bit.

Not much else to say really except that its happening.

No fair! The guy who made hoodoo gets to compete? Well, looks like we have a winner.

Looks good. ;]

Good stuff, youme. Any idea what type of map this will be? 3 stage payload, single stage payload like Badwater? Other?

I'm fairly certain the contest is one-stage maps only. So if it's a contest entry... chances are that's what it'll be.

Anyways, I can't help but agree with JDive. The displacements look so smooth and natural and whatnot. And the barn looks great. My map doesn't stand a chance already! ;)

Oh chilly, I figured most people had seen the contest info already, its for that so its a single stage one like badwater, I'm planning on having four cap points, an advance spawn for blue/shortcuts for red and a big ol' rocket at the end.
I love the natural elements of badwater, its a pity you can zip through them so quickly, so I'm making sure mine has much more of that, its going from natural to builtup with natural bits then back to natural then to a big spytechy-dustbowl-stage-3-rocket-base.

Everyone gets to compete, but I've been assured that MangyCarface will be winning this time.

A few thoughts:

1. Make the last point elevated, make it feel more like a finish.
2. I don't really like how you are using the cliffs as just a place for attackers to shoot at the defenders from cover. I think that you should have the cliff easily accessed by Red so that while Blu is attacking, Red can flank. Now that I realize, it is very similar to the last part of Badwater, with the 3 windows overlooking the point.
3. Make the cliffs more fluid. Take out the rocks in the first part of Badwater at the cliffs and that is pretty much what you have, give or take a wall which serves the purpose of cover for offense. If you add some rocks and natural cover for Red and Blu to exploit, you can easily have an epic final stage.

The rocket facility in the skybox is a very nice touch.

To me it looks a bit out of place at the moment, it needs a bit more stuff around it I think.

Actually I think it adds a comical surreal touch. Maybe Youme should make it farther away to make it look more out of place.

I like it out there. It's fun. Might want to add another simple building offset in front of it, just to make it fit a little more. Or some hoodoos? :)

Wow, looks amazing. I like the rocket building, I'll wait until the map is better detailed before developing a full opinion on it.

Why is the rocket appearing to "take off" over a pit of radioactive barrels?

I don't really see the logic in that.

Nor is there any logic to two opposing companies building forts 50 feet apart. Just gotta accept TF2 as what it is- humorous and nonsensical. ;)

But still, things like that are a little too unrealistic if you know what I mean. I am sure Youme can get away with this rocket-pit deal though.
