I am currently organizing a Pass The Map, what this means is that one person will get the map for a week, and once they are finished the map will be Passed to the next person in line.

There are no rules other than to keep it within the bounds of a normal map. No random saws, trains or dumb stuff like that. If anyone feels like anything needs to be amended here post about it below.
I will be inspecting every submission for quality.

Gamemode? Single-Staged Payload
Theme? Yukon/Snakewater (subject to change)

So it seems Territorial Control is winning by a large mile. I'd like to know who voted for the mode, and why you did so. It could just be a few newbies who don't understand the ramifications of making a TC map, or it could be you guys wanting to just try something.
My issue with making a TC map is that they are disconnected at the very core, which misses the point of this endeavour. It was my mistake to even list Territorial Control.
TC implies a very large map. And if people are going to be working on this map for weeks at a time, we will want to have stuff to work on, obviously. The problem with this is that the map will become disjointed and scattered, and people will have a hard time organizing things.
Better modes for this would be Payload or Attack Defend. So unless someone makes a grand argument for TC I will most likely make a new poll tomorrow, Subtracting it from the equation.

Also, I want to know who would be interested in contributing to this project. And if so, what mode would you personally like to do? It might be better to ask the people who will actually be creating the map rather than the bystanders.

I like this idea, but no TC. That's not very fun to balance and do. Though it would allow a lot of passing due to the obscene amounts of time it takes to get finished...

I would happily do spawns for this project, and I voted for gravel pit style map.

Could we do a strawpoll for a theme. And the time the map is set on (night, day)?

I'd like to try my hand at helping out! I feel that multi-stage payload race, payload, or any form of A/D (normal, steel, gravelpit, ctf) would work best for this, because they are large enough to have several people make meaningful contributions to it. Symmetrical maps I feel the same way on, it's hard to contribute when you essentially get half of a map to fit everyone's ideas into. Pass and RD are an exception because they are so big, but from what I've seen nobody's super into making them while they're in beta. Please, not TC. I'd turn out more complicated than Hydro if everyone tries to do something different to it. Arena and koth would be too small in my opinion.

I'd be interested in contributing, also kind of want to do A/D CTF because I have a soft spot for that mode. Definitely want this project to be an asymmetrical map though, I can't imagine working in this sort of environment with a symmetrical map.

I voted for a cp_steel type of map. These aren't as big as tc maps and should also be easier to playtest.

A strawpoll on the theme would be nice, but the combinations are endless. Maybe take a few themes that people would be willing to do and try to combine them in a smart way. For example: Desert + Snow = Desert with textures replaced to be snow and ice; no trees.

Also, how should we go about custom content and instances? Both require files that are not just the vmf.

Who would make the base for the map? If it isn't lain we should have it be someone at random.

I voted for TC, but your argument against it makes sense. I figured it would be easy for everyone to be able to contribute a snippet of the layout if the gamemode demanded a large map, though I agree it would probably end up being a bunch of separate little maps with no coherent style. My second choice would be a typical single-stage, 4 (maybe 5) point payload map, since it's plenty big and we don't need to worry about mirroring it.

Im very interested to do this, even if we do TC. However, I voted 5cp myself

Yeah, I think that a asymmetrical map will be better to work with.
If its symmetrical, how the hell we will know what did the last people on the other side on the map, and now i need to recreate in this side?
(That's the reason why I hate to make Arena/Koth/CTF maps, how hard is for me recreate something that i did on the other side)

You're welcome.

I didn't voted Territoral because I kew something like what you mentioned would happen.
It gives us more possiblities to work with, but how it would play?

And if I ever touch that file I'm gonna do detailing

Asymmetrical sounds good. I won't vote, but love the idea of aa Steel map. If a/d is involved I would probably like to contribute.

I dont care what we do, as long as the system for whos editing the map allows for people to fix mistakes bfore sending it to the next person.
For Ex: Someone decides to add custom logic w/ approval from people. The logic is never playtested and after the week has to be fixed by the next person who may have 0 idea how to and has to spend most of the week fixing it instead of mapping.

This sounds fun. It certainly might help me get better at mapping. I think we should do this sort of thing more often.

Just straight up, if this is your first mapping endeavour or you haven't made any competent map before (working skybox, gameplay that isn't just a flat plane, no glaring technical issues) you will not be contributing. Sorry to sound like a downer but you should be taking this time to improve your own craft. And who knows, if you show promise you could join later down the line. Hope you can understand.

I have sent out a message to all people who have met the minimum requirements and have shown interest. If you feel like you do meet the requirements and want in, shoot me a message.
