Detailing

After years of work and months of procrastinating I have reached this inexorable conclusion which I may deny no longer:

siegepic.jpg

I can't detail for the life of me.

A while ago, almost three years now actually, I began work on a Payload map called "Siege," the setting of which being a BLU industrial complex which RED as laid siege to. BLU is still attacking, however, and they win by escorting the bomb cart to the RED laser beam at the end of the track, which will destroy the main BLU factory should the timer run out.

I started out with the idea of having the color palette start out completely blue, but gradually turn red as the map progresses. This led to a lot of purples in between, along with many interiors simply being a dull gray. It also didn't help that I can't design nor build convincing looking buildings. I had intended to make the complex look like it had been there a while by placing older buildings next to more updated ones. Unfortunately, I couldn't pull that off.

Finally, I don't have much time to rectify this. I've been trying to get a master's degree for a long time, and I am at long last nearly done. However, while I have completed my thesis, I still have a large number of re-writes to take care of.

For these reasons, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to detail this map. I can give anyone interested partial credit for the map, as I don't have enough money to pay anyone. Along with the .vmf I can provide you with all of the custom textures I've either made or utilized if needed.

Detailing would be fun to do. I'll give it a go even if someone else is. I don't play tf2 much but I need something fun to do.

I have found the articles about detailing, that live at nodraw.net very useful for building my comprehension of the techniques experienced mappers employ. Some of them were authored by YM, who is an author of three official community maps.

I appreciate this, thank you. Unfortunately one of the other big issues other than my lack of skill is my lack of time. I simply don't have nearly as much time as I used to, and if I continue at the rate I'm going at, it will probably be another three years before this map is done.

I'm also thankful and surprised for the amount of replies this thread has got. I'm honestly not sure how to proceed, because I'm really not sure how this works, I don't think I've ever made a request like this before. But, I am willing to put the .vmf up for download. I just need to figure out how to do that too.
