EGX (Previously Eurogamer Expo)
When? This year runs from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th of September
Where? The NEC in Birmingham (UK)

It's always a cool thing, I've gone every year from the last 4 or so.

I've met a few of you guys, but never a sizable number of you, after seeing how iibo managed to get a few people to crash at hers for the 72 contest, it'd be great to get all of you who attend to meet in one coherent place at one coherent time.

Tickets then?
Tickets can be bought here: https://www.egx.net/egx/tickets
Saturday is all sold out but my advice would be that the Thusday and Friday are far better days to attend. There's way fewer people, no children, the devs aren't exhausted yet and it's just a lot nicer than the weekend.

I have a 4 day super-pass so I'll be there all the time if people are attending on different days.

Chet Faliszek will be giving another VR talk on the Thursday afternoon, the one he gave at REZZED in march was a great talk and this time the Vive will be playable to regular people, not just press and people with an in.

If you can only come for one day, Thursday would be the one to do.

Not sure you'd enjoy it?
  • Tons of big budget games before they're out - usually not too exciting, but it can be, depends on the game
  • Tons of indie games, many you've never even heard of, some you have
  • Games like Gang Beasts will be there, it's a good opportunity to play these local multiplayer games if you live alone like me!
  • All your favourite devs will be there! Chet Faliszek, Tom Francis, Rami Ismail, Mike Bithell, William Pugh, and many more. Yes! They're real people! Yes you can have real conversations with them! Yes, they're all AWESOME people!
  • TONS of games now have Oculus devkits. As they gain a bigger foothold in the industry the amount of kits available to play at these events has risen hugely. Guarentee there's going to be games with no queue where you can just rock up, sit down and get a neat VR experience. It's awesome!
  • The HTC Vive will be on show there. No idea how long the queues will be, but it'll be worth it!
  • There are the regular not-famous variety of developers there too. If you're looking for industry contacts it's pretty great, at REZZED(smaller event in march under the EGX banner) I got to talk to several of the lead Alien Isolation devs along with a bunch of indie devs. You can learn a lot.
  • There are developer sessions every day. These range from in depth technical gamedev subjects to more marketing events to talks about how to get into the games industry. Some are pretty great. Also a great chance to pounce on the person giving the talk if you want a word.

Why is this thread a poll?
If you've bought tickets, and are definitely attending then please put your name down for which days so we can see who will be there and when.

Please don't respond to the poll until you've obtained tickets and know you'll be attending.

I'd love to go and give the Vive (or any VR thing) a try; as my eyes are that little bit funky, I can't see 3D like on the 3DS, or 3D glasses, so I need to see if these things would work for me or if I'm just going to be completely passed by with the VR trend.

Sadly, can't come regardless.

I'm not really allowed to talk to strangers. Sorry.

Well that poll is really useful. One vote for each day.

Is anyone going on the Thursday or Friday?

@worMatty, if you click the '1 vote(s)' it tells you who has voted for that day (currently only me it seems), so if other people voted for the days they were attending we'd have a nice tally of who is going on each day.

Tad surprised no one has put themselves down yet tbh since I bump into someone different from tf2maps every year. Although, this time it is in the understandably less desirable location of Birmingham instead of the much more desirable London.

Cause there's no place like London
