Cubemaps broken for me

Every map I've been on today, cubemaps haven't worked and it's glowed purple everywhere. I don't think I've installed anything other than maps, so I have no clue what's causing it. Thoughts?

(yes, this probably isn't the place to put it, but I have no clue where else it'd go)

I have experienced the same. Cubemaps worked for everyone else but for me on the same map.
I think it is a bug - at least this is what I was told when I asked about it in the chat.

When I compiled my map with built cubemaps they worked at first and suddenly didn't anymore.
I recompiled and it worked again..

I think VBSP occasionally generates bad cubemaps that break everything for some reason. I don't really know why, it's a newish bug. But before building cubemaps you can open VIDE or PakRat or whatever you use, browse the pakfile in your map, and remove all "Texture" and "Texture (HDR)" files (only the VTFs). It's like packing files but in reverse.

This is what cubemaps look like in the pakfile. If you haven't packed anything yet (as you shouldn't have, because you have to build cubemaps first) they should be the only thing here. That's my best guess!

Or you're doing it wrong. Make sure you turn off specular!

Just to point out, these haven't been my maps. I played an imp the other day and no map (iirc) had working cubemaps. Since nobody else pointed this out, I assume it was a problem on my end. Gonna try verifying game cache and seeing how that turns out.

Cubemaps are broken on my end as well, except they don't generate the purple/black checkerboard. Instead, it's just black. It varies per map though. CP_Well doesn't have reflections, but CTF_Well does.

Could be that people don't realize this bug occurs. I think, like soupcan says, the autogenerated cubemaps are black, so that's probably it. I have specular on but I never notice.
