Alright, Albobo and I started a steam group. It is used to promote the good custom maps, as we feel that the custom maps arent getting played enough. most full servers are running either valve stock maps or orange/gimmick maps, with people not willing to download the bigger maps (filesize). This will hopefully put those custom maps to good use!

the steam group is called "TF2 Custom Gamers"

we hope you guys join, and suggest maps to be run. Right now we have 1 server that is being converted to run the custom maps!

heres the link: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/TF2CustomGamers

It's great to see someone make servers dedicated to GOOD custom maps. I'm not sure what kinda ping I'd get on that server, but I'll make sure to visit.

Maps you should have would be - not counting the obvious choices of the maps on this site - cp_boulder, cp_broma and other great custom maps that never get played. This means I'd not recommend maps like cp_castle4, because while it's good, it gets played a lot.

I'll throw my hat into the ring. As a server owner who runs largely custom maps I would love to see more folks join on Hoodoo, Meridian and others instead of luring them to the server with Valve maps beforehand.

If you're planning on keeping a list of recommended servers, count me in. I'll join up with the group when I get a chance later this evening.

I hate being devils advocate (well not really :p) but how do you define 'good'? I mean, at what point do you draw the line? All of the aforementioned are in a class all their own. What about the countless maps that are fun/playable, but get like 6-7 out of 10? Though I do think having a Steam group dedicated to actually playing the custom content is a good idea :)

hmmm.. well its kinda hard to explain. because fun is subjective/opinion, we cant just go by that. of course, the map has to be balanced for all classes, be in its final form (maybe near-final, not sure about that), and it has to be fun to play. Gimmick maps do not belong, and they should be maps that show off how much talent the tf2 community has in mapmaking. Mainly, we want to get maps that are good to be played more.

I will post a list of recommended servers, or if anyone knows any, they can suggest them. also, if anyone wants to use their server for this eventually, it would be appreciated. We have one right now, but we *may* want to get more going.

And for anyone responsible for posting announcements/events, go ahead and tell me you'd like to be an admin

also, if it is fine with the admins here, can I mention tf2maps.net as the place to go to provide feedback?

edit: oh, if anyone wants to make a logo, go ahead and say so.

yeah, join up and ill add your server apex, theres no point to limit it to one server, the more the better ;)

and...i my description i made sure to always refer to the customs im using as "quality" its a nice and ambiguous word that doesn't really provoke any responses like immortals <_<

anyways...when a few people join up i intend to set up some kind of vote on the location of the server, right now its in Seattle but i have no problem moving it to a more central location

currently the only maps on my server outside of valve maps are bloodstained and boulder...only real completed dustbowl type maps of any merit, and thanks for the reminder on hodoo, only pl map including valves thats worth playing :p never played broma, but ill look into it

Edit: Corn posted while i was typing...so ignore any double answers

I think everyone who joins, could just send a tell to the admins orso, and shows a map list of their maps they run, that they can just decide than if it gets on the ++Good Custom server list++

i think the only reason the css community went so well because the normal game mode got very boring quickly, but with tf2 espicially with all the different classes it makes it a longer appealing game,

thats painful to try and read...but i think i got it...eventually...

anyways...right now im not going to be terribly picky, eventually what i want to do is run something like the gameday we do here. (probably on the alternate weekend :p) People would recommend maps to be added to the server then they would be tested, and added or discarded based on the general consensus
