General piece of advice to take away from this, whether it caused any of your issues or not: Don't mess with any of the variables on light entities except the color/brightness this early on. There are rarely valid reasons for it.
The problem with the lighting of Attack_Defend can be solved by not running vvis.exe. Vvis.exe can be excluded from the compile process by selecting the option labeled "no" on the section labeled "run VIS" on the window that appears when the "run map" button is selected on the hammer editor.
