I think it depends on the layout.
One theme would fit better with certain maps and others wouldn't fit at all.
Try imaginging 2fort with a Moon Base theme...

That would be cool actually

At least the water area will be drained in that situation. But it also might just be a deathpit. It most likely will play the same.

For a theme be patient. Your brushwork is often a good guide to set a style. If you can do it with low buildings most of the time then your final work very likely also will be. And that many times means wooden buildings. With high walls undustrial or granary style is more common.

Dont rush the style though, it can only dissapoint you that way.

well thats the problem i have no idea of a theme i need like a list or something

I mean, what's your favourite theme to play in? Do you like desert-themed maps (Dustbowl, Gold Rush) or alpine-themed maps (Lumberyard, Gorge)?

Da.

Anyway, I think I'm one of the few mappers that decides on a theme and then makes the thing. I, for some reason, am incapable of making everything in dev textures first. I need to immediately see what I make.
There's so many themes really...

- Mediëval
- Egypt
- Western-style
- Alpine
- Snow
- Space
- Ghostly/haunted

It entirely depends on what style you like. Don't pick a style that you think others will like if you won't. Pick something you really want to make. When I made MvM_Yucatan, a Mayan-themed map, I knew in advance that a lot of people would find the not-so-TF2-style textures a turnoff. But I didn't give a ****. I had that theme in mind so I made it.
