How would you guys and gals feel if valve started making weapons or items that have different effects on different maps?

Ex. Flamethrower on a snow map shoots out snow instead of fire and flares are snowballs.

That would become very repetitive after a while.

How would I feel? I don't think I'd feel anything.

There does seem to be a way to override existing content by packing in the same named files into your map which get loaded on top of server files but only for that map, according to the gameinfo.txt:

// Random files downloaded from gameservers go into a seperate directory, so
// that it's easy to keep those files segregated from the official game files
// or customizations intentially installed by the user.
//
// This directory is searched LAST. If you visit a server and download
// a custom model, etc, we don't want that file to override the default
// game file indefinitely (after you have left the server). Servers CAN have
// custom content that overrides the default game files, it just needs to be
// packed up in the .bsp file so that it will be mounted as a map search pack.
// The map search pack is mounted at the top of the search path list,
// but only while you are connected that server and on that map.

In the past I've overridden the robot destruction core model with money for my watergate map, and here's a stunning spy skin I tested out just now with roflman:

Anyway, it's probably possible to just override the particle pcf file where the flames are with a custom-made but same-ly-named pcf with like snowflake fire so on your snow map you have snow flames.

They should make a festive rainblower that shoots snow. My post at the top doesn't have to be mandatory it could just apply to those with pyro-vision. Give some incentive to actually use the goggles.
