If I were more active, I'd say "Hey, pick me." But with school and work, my activeness would be approximately a 4 hour span of time during the Eastern US evening. If however, you guys are ever in need of me, you know where to find me.

I talked to Seba about this, and he said you don't need anyone anymore, but I thought I'd make a post anyway. I'm yyler, ex admin, and I'm available again. I wish I hadn't deleted my account.

I used to run weekly tests and frequent imps. I kept chat and the forums tidy. I had a big hand in organizing the MvM contest and built the website it uses. I was one of the most thanked users and I have made some of the better technical guides on the site. I also changed usernames for people when they asked, which is tedious, and as proof I offer my own unchanged username (edit: never mind! thanks geit).

I wouldn't plan to restart my weekly tests, but I wouldn't mind handling imps. I'd like to create a central hub of subdomains for new users or guests to use when looking for map or content packs (like packs.tf2maps.net, with links to others). I also wouldn't mind assuming some of my old powers to expedite name changes, though that seems less of an issue now. Also, I still remember everything about Hammer and Source. Everything.

The reason I left before was stress related, but I've since quit my job and restarted school. Some might remember I used to be the buyer and manager for a wine shop. I quit last year because I realized it was destroying my life. I also thought I was about to die, several times. I'm not about to die anymore. I spent a while not doing anything but dealing with the possibility that I was on my way out and had wasted my life on video games and a job I hate and kind of freaked out, but I'm still sorry for just up and leaving. The thread in the staff forum says more, I think. I'd like to add I'm generally happier and less irritated over little things.

Anyway, I'm happy to help out if you need it. If not, I also don't mind, because I already got a Mapper's Medallion and that's really the best part of being staff.

I'm really glad you're back Yyler, and that you're alright. I can't speak for the others but i'd love to see you again on- wait, staff get medallions?

We literally had that exact discussion in chat just half an hour ago

You should try to become staff, clearly.

By the way...

While I don't think I should be staff in any circumstances (we'll agree on that much). As we begin a new era of map making with the workshop, I think tf2m should review its infrastructure and integrate better with the services that are offered to us. I feel that there's a lot of server stuff that would need to be updated and I want lending some of my expertise to make it happen.

Some of the changes I propose and volunteer to implement:
- uploading maps for tests is a pretty heavy burden that the workshop can automate for us. I propose to move to a subscription based approach to get maps on the server and deliver content.
- The motd has very little value for now, no one will log into that and browse the forums. I suggest that we instead pull the workshop page of the current map which provides us with a quick way to write to the author and a way to subscribe to a map if we're interested in its development. (and it gives us more workshop views/ratings effectively turning us into a circlejerk prosperous community with great visibility)
- We should provide a way to link map topics to their respective workshop pages.

I assume this is probably already being discussed but if you need some muscles, I'll be here.

The problem with that is then we have alpha versions of maps being uploaded to the workshop, where their rating and reputation will probably be damaged early on.

It does give me an idea, though. What if there was a section of the steam workshop specifically dedicated to maps early in development?

I think we should instead request valve to allow us to lock the rating function and/or add a visibility option that makes it so the page is only visible to those with the link.

just to be clear I'm not saying we should remove/replace the current way of uploading maps completely, but we should take advantage of the workshop when and where it makes sense. however, we just don't know yet if valve wants to keep the workshop as a showcase platform or a development platform. It could probably be both.

I personally won't be using the workshop to upload unfinished work. I'm content with testing the maps I make with friends and the TF2Maps servers.

The workshop just doesn't feel like the place to upload works in progress, I mean honestly what are your chances of getting any real feedback there?

Hi! It's taken me a long time to get to the point where I'm confident enough in myself to write something like this, so here goes.

I've been an active part of the community for a while, over the past year I've taken it to myself to improve my activeness within the community. I've spent most of my good days in chat, socializing, I think everyone in there knows me pretty well (and pretty personally, too). I've helped contain and moderate drama as a silver star, I've participated in most modes of moderation in the chat. I am sociable and frequent the chat often, and am a source of help for new users or users who have questions they need answered.

I'm known for being one of the most motivated and hard-working mappers out there right now, I've released quite a few maps within the past year I think are some of my best. I'm currently working on quite a few alphas, dedicating close to a full-time job's worth of work on them. Some of my projects include Alloy, Hella, and the nearly 3-year project Sunshine, which has become a popular competitive map and a half-official map with the Halloween reskin Sinshine. I take feedback well and I communicate efficiently. I deliver my opinions to my peers while also treating every bit of incoming feedback as valid, no matter how it's been worded.

I'm very friendly and I love working with people. I've collaborated in projects with many people, including iiboharz, and am currently planning potential collaborations with Crash and others. I love working with people I know and I have a lot of interest working alongside and with Staff.

My activity here includes running imps, participating in community events like chat-held Drawful and CAH, and helping out with imps when I am not running. I am a common go-to person if people need announces or map lists made for imps, and I am available for the majority of my day for duties and anything I may need to do. I've currently run one gameday, and plan to run many more; with staff permissions, it will make that much easier.

Speaking of staff permissions, some of the things I would be able to do better with them would include:
  • Being able to set crits on demand during VIP-run imps and my own tests, whenever needed
  • Moderating the chat when no other admins are active or around (as has occasionally happened in the past); as well as moderating the server when imps are running
  • Writing and editing official posts and announcements, as I'm good at making things bridge the “knowledge gap” between writers and readers – in other words, I'm concise and I write in a way people can easily understand
I'm really motivated to help and improve positivity and helpfulness in the community. I'd love to help host and organize community events.

Lastly, and most importantly, I have a proposal for a sort of gameday-like event that would help shorten the distance between TF2M and competitive. I've been in attendance for many competitive map testing groups before, and know what works and what doesn't work – and I'd love to be able to set up something directly alongside other mappers and testers.

What I have in mind is a sort of biweekly event – twice a month, one 6v6 test and one Highlander (9v9) test. I would open a submission thread, formatted like a gameday but slightly differently – aimed towards mapmakers who'd like to get their maps tested in an organized environment but don't have the resources or dedication at hand to directly approach the competitive community themselves. With admin privileges, I'd be able to implement competitive configs on our TF2M servers (or, I would at least be able to inform the people in charge of the servers how to set those up), and execute them whenever a competitive test is called for. I'd be able to disable configs back to normal after the tests finish.

Finally, I'd be able to be a sort of community ambassador for us to the competitive communities – specifically, teamfortress.tv. I'm already a well-known mapper there, for creation of Sunshine and Reckoner, and I'd cross-post announcements about our tests to tf.tv once they've ran here for a while and are confirmed to work. We might even be able to get and make use of a mumble server again!

Anyways... that's about it. I love this community and really want to help make it even better – while I do have impediments in my life that might prevent me from doing as much as I want to (unsupportive parents, clinical depression and anxiety), I'm still committed towards helping.

Sorry for this being so long.

Thank you,

Phi

I want to be staff because I'm way into ass play.
