So, people spend all the time one here pegging each others about their maps. But I've never seen anyone ask why the others came to this forum, so here that topic is!

I kinda came here after wanting to map for TF2, I've wanted to do so since I found out about Hammer and such, but couldn't. I didn't understand the tools, and I didn't watch a tutorial. Though around summer 2014, I actually did the shit, watching tutorials and messing around. And then I remembered seeing my brudda on this community around aboot late 2010 - early 2011. So I just came here because thats where everyone else went!

So, why you come here?

I came to complain about the capture decay rate of control points. It was the start of the fine tradition of me asking for help, not getting any (or anything useful), and then figuring out the answer minutes later. I do occasionally get a useful answer, but that's because I sometimes work on things that aren't never-been-done-before gimmicks.

Originally, the MvM contest. I half made a map, then gave up on it and didn't come back for 6 months; when I'd heard about a 72 hour contest. After that I made crap maps for another year and since then made gradually less crap maps because I managed to grow the incentive to change things in my maps.

Interested in tf2 mapping in 2009 I googled some shit, ended up on a Grazr thread, added him on steam cause I thought he was a cool guy. I went to surf mapping, but periodically would join Grazr's games to play some TF2maps' gamedays, so I knew about the site and its purpose. 2013 I got bored of surf mapping but still wanted to do TF2 because that's what I knew how to do, figured TF2maps would be ideal, and so far it has been.

2014 Detail contest. But interest in TF2 mapping was already there long before that.

I mapped for Portal 2 using the Hammer Editor on and off, but I was never any good. I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but I encountered Crash's YT channel and his project cp_glassworks, and it really showed me that I had an incredible and accessible tool in my hands in the Editor and in TF2. So, I pushed myself to really work on improving my ability through many different projects. This is the project I was working on around when I joined the site, cp_campout:

At the time, I thought that using ABS' pack was 'cheating'! I eventually settled with cp_talon, which I might completely re-do someday, as certain area's weren't half-bad.

I still make terrible maps, but at least I make terrible maps with people that care to help fix them! :)

I've always been the guy who found a game with a level editor a selling point. I used to spend more time in Smash Bros Brawl building crazy maps to fight in than actually playing the game. Naturally, I was crazy about Minecraft. I found a game someone made for it to emulate this strange game called Team Fortress 2, and I was interested. After spending way too much time watching tf2 videos on youtube, I decided to get it on steam. Not long after I started playing, I wondered if I could make my own maps for it, so I looked it up. I found TF2maps, and here I am.

Tried my hand at mapping before, numerous times. That's why I signed up here some years back. So far my only published work was a few buildings in a STALKER-themed GMOD map. Then this year I participated in a Bunker-themed mapping contest on Facepunch, and chose TF2 as my theme/game of choice.

Sadly mine ended up being the only finished entry and I won nothing

However I found working with TF2 assets to be quite rewarding, and decided to finally come up with an actual layout from which to make a map, and see the damn thing through.

I know this topics a few weeks old now but I wanted to share.

Hundreds of hours in TF2 I was just naturally drawn to the world editor. I've been toying with things like that since I was a young child.

Started with things like the Tony Hawk level editors to messing with mock dungeons props in real life with D&D miniatures.

I've never had the resolve to finish anything in Hammer but I couldn't see myself doing anything else as a hobby. Regardless I saw this community and loved it here.

I've been using Hammer for years, like at least since 2009, but never got anywhere. The skill was there but I was never putting it to practical use.

Roll forward to September 2014 and I wanna make a map for me and my TF2 buddies to play in.

I found Crash's videos somehow and end up exploring his channel, noticing a lot of the TF2M plugging and also having prior knowledge of TF2M's existence I decide to register.

I haven't regretted a single moment :p

Like Ynders, I too like editors in videogames. Someday, around the start of 2012 I found TF2 and did nothing but play it.
Mid 2012 was when i heard about Hammer, but I had no clue how to use it, at all. I didn't even know how to make a damn brush!
Half a year later I tried again. By watching 3kliksphilip's "How to make water in 30 seconds" video i finally found out how to create a brush. I tried making maps, but I never showed them to anybody because I didn't know enough to make anything work.
Mid 2013 the steampipe update came around, which broke the Source SDK. So I had to find workarounds and while I was at it, I found strange websites like this. I also had started to help a friend with an edit of cp_orange, as he is a server owner and tried to use hammer himself. But that's another story and shall be told another time.
End of 2013 and finally I decided to join this community. A month later the 72h contest came around. I was too scared to participate. The entire time I watched Crash make a wonderful pl map.
And sometime later I started to regularly join the steamchat.

Btw, my usernumber is 16091, which stays the same if you flip it upside-down. hooray(?)
