Hi I'm Yoseph. I started learning how to map this morning, now it's dark. . . and I'm hungry. I want to learn how to make maps so I can experiment and see what I can do with different game modes. I've got some crazy (stupid) ideas:

I was thinking about trying to make a payload map where the cart is constantly downhill (yeah this has probably been done before right?), and the defenders have to stand by it the whole game or face defeat. Obviously the map would have to be balanced to favour the defenders in order for them to overcome this disadvantage.

I'd also like to make a cp_gravelpit style map where instead of having three points A, B and C there are four A, B, C1 and C2. C1 and C2 only open up when both are captured and only one of them will open up at all. If you cap A first then B C1 will be active, but if you cap B first then C2 will be active. It gives the attackers to choose which final point they would rather try to capture, by the order they attack the first two. (And it creates some nice variety in the map)

I've got a lot to learn but I hope that one day I'll make something nice to share with you guys. I also like seeing other people's work and I'd be happy to give feedback and my opinion on any projects you have going! (I'm great at finding exploits too!)

Btw, the payload map your talking about sounds kinda unbalanced , but keep in mind that it hasn't been done yet so that's just my personal opinion.

Welcome and don't take the criticism personally - mapping's hard and the feedback you get here will be to help you improve. We all went through it lol

Thanks guys, I've already learned so much, but it's becoming clear to me that there is a huuuge amount of overhead to think about while designing! Lots of fun though. Thanks everyone for welcoming me, and to the friendly people in the steam chat who are happy to put up with my constant newbie questions.
