Valve, why...

I don't understand why, when you don't have rocket jumpers, you can't just stick a player clip 2-3 player heights above the map and deal with most of these clips.

You should always assume all players can fly when putting in clipping and make all small props non-solid. It's not like it takes any extra effort to raise every noclip to the skybox, or do what Rubbishy says and just clip off a low ceiling across the whole map.

You wouldn't believe how fast players can abuse stuff like standing on each other, or air strafe/bunny hopping, or physics prop catapults to get onto areas that the VDC claims are unreachable.

One of the creator of Marquis is one of my best buddies and they really don't thought about that but I think they ran out of brushes too. Testing clipping without rocket jump is not that easy ^^. Also, player collision only able in competitive mode and anyway they already fixed that (don't know if the version is uploaded)

Valve sent a lot of feedbacks to the operation mappers and looks like they themselves have some trouble to find some clipping issue.

By the way i'm really surprised by some people getting really upset with the maps and their bugs... My friend received some shitty messages from the CSGO community...

Yeah but people don't think that you can fly in CSGO because it's not the purpose of the game like in TF2. It's just a bit harsh to bash them like some people did (with insult and all) because them only though about classic players.

Seems like most of these issues could be avoided by just not allowing players to climb on each other's backs in the first place.

Are the vanilla maps all playerclipped?

But piggybacking is a realistic element of counterstrike, like exploding chickens! Vanilla maps are generally better but that mostly seems to be because of fixing issues over time - I remember seeing a video last week of how to troll your team on Dust2 and throw the bomb out of bounds.

Thanks 3DNJ - I think it's hard to appreciate that for a lot of these issues, you need a teammate to do the weird boosting - or sometimes two. That's much tougher than simply spamming spacebar as scout on your own. Then there's the added dimension of grenades and the bomb - some need to realistically bounce off of things, like "small" props, and some need to block the bomb but not grenades, to prevent griefing while keeping immersion. That's another level than just checking projectile collision + player clipping.

See, I completely agree with the idea that people shouldn't bitch and yell and demean mappers who missed spots to clip. It isn't that serious of a thing. The internet is too full of aggressive assholes.

At the same time, though, as a mapper I agree with the idea that there aren't many excuses for missing spots. It is part of your job when making a map, and one of the easier ones to do and verify.

Don't bitch - Shit happens - But it shouldn't.

Makes you jump about 4x as high and doesnt involve anything hard for them. They can just try to jump on everything. Showing the clip boxes is just to make that process easier. And also, servers sometimes put that on for the lols.

The only excuse for not clipping is that its outside of the map. All other reasons are lazyness.

Also, keep in mind these are custom maps. Valve made maps such as Dust II and Nuke have been tested countless hours by the devs, not to mention are played thousands of times a day. Valve has access to tons of feedback on their maps, and any issues found by the community are bound to be fixed within a short period.

Now look at it from the point of view of the map creator. While they definitely had their map playtested many times, they didn't have access to nearly as much feedback as Valve did. Then when the map gets in game, thousands of people are playing it and then the mistakes get found.

I remember seeing a video where some CS players hopped on top of some pidgions, and flew upwards so they could sort of get above the map. I know that is not intended functionality, but it makes me wonder if CS mappers could use a flock of birds as an actual game element for players to use if they know how.

On a somewhat off-topic note regarding engineers: Why don't mappers just mark everything that isn't meant for a player to be (or where it isn't wanted by the mapper) as func_nobuild? I'm not entirely sure how it's done, but I've also seen sometimes if you carry with you into spawn it destroys whatever building you're holding too.

Player clip brushes automatically double as nobuild zones, so as long as you clip everything you're supposed to, you won't need nobuilds except for things like the areas under stairs and such.
