So, in case you don't know, a new TF2 mod is being created as an alternate TF2.

Here's a VNN video:


So, this mod needs attention, and it needs maps.
Hmmm... I wonder who could make said maps?

I came here because this mod looks like a lot of fun, and it needs all the support it can get. So please, support it :)

Hoping that custom maps will be supported in the future.

Looks like entirely new maps are needed for all the new modes so this could be an interesting opportunity

That said I get the distinct impression they're way overambitious and really really need to focus on only the very basics for now. Doomed to fail otherwise. I'll give it a few months and if it hasn't crashed and burned by then, sure, it'll get support

So wait, how can it be "classic" and still have a bunch of new modes and maps? Surely that's less "classic" than "we're ruining it differently".

It's based off of the promotional artwork, gameplay, and screenshots of early TF2,
and I've been told that they're remaking some TF2 maps from scratch to be closer to TFC-style flow.

TF2 doesn't support more than 8 control points, so unless the mod removes that limitation, this isn't possible.

I also think it would be best to give the dev team more time to work out the basics before we try to make maps for it. As it stands, it's clearly incomplete and they probably don't need several maps being developed for alpha gamemodes that are prone to major changes.

Yo, I am currently a mapper on their team (or considered as one, I've not done any more than ports yet while I get my bearings and become familiar with 4-team and DM [the modes with most demand]).

As far as I know there's a large demand for anything custom or unique with this mod as it can be implemented officially with it being an entire source mod, so if there's anyone with custom modes designed for TF2 I'd give them a shot at TF2C too because they can more than likely be implemented if they're good enough (though I do not speak for anyone else).

But there's generally a large demand for everything at the moment, especially players and dedicated server hosts in all regions.

Both of these. I think this awesome, great, fun that we have another mod for TF2, but it hardly sounds like 'classic' TF2 that I would expect from the title. I don't care if it's based on concept art or missing files or what not. This isn't really classic anymore, this is TF2 Reimagined...

Also, they are talking about a LOT of content (and new stuff, that isn't classic). I think I recognize some of the artwork, but from a design/coding side of things, I have no idea who's running so I have no idea if they can follow through on anything they're even saying they would like to have. And the VNN guy at the end emphasizing that "Hey, these developers have lives too so devleopment might be slow and some of these features might not come in or see the light of day" did not help me geting behind this.

Sorry for being cynical, but come on guys, use some common sense and think about the work that goes into this and what they're planning. It's probably all 10x more than you think (maybe 30x because it's the source engine). They get a 'nice work, looks fun. I wish you luck' from me, but for now thats about it. Well see how it goes in a few months.

Having seen the mod become what it is from just being "hey we have (one of the) original release(s) of TF2, let's play it together" to a "let's make a mod reimagining tf2's release version" I can see it's came a long way in that time. With the actual mod itself being in the hands of the talented, mature and dedicated MacD11 I'm confident the mod will succeed (but don't forget everyone else who's working their behinds off for the mod); however the biggest threat to the mod appears to be (from many people's perspectives) the "volounteer figurehead" 404: User Not Found (anyone from Facepunch will understand why) as while they are true to their position, they can be quite explosive and destructive.

I really have no idea who MacD11 is, what has he done, why should I think that he's the right person for this? I'm not asking to be mean or to put the guy/gal down, I ask because if anyone is interested in helping, these are the things they should know. I've been burned too many times for not asking this and I'd like to impart what I learned from my mistakes to other people so they don't make the same mistakes. Also, yea, I know 404, so that doesn't help my confidence.


And still, beyond all that, if it's so far from the original release version, why is it still called classic. It's conveying the wrong idea.

I did a custom gamemode once and was fun but didn't really make sense for 2 teams. maybe I'll look into making it for 4 teams
