I am not sure so I ask you, do you use PakRat tool to merge/add the texture to the map file that players don't need to manually install it ? Just making sure that I don't screw up my map or anything.

Yeah, you need to use a tool like PakRat or VIDE (or whatever nerds use these days) to pack any custom content into your map before you distribute it.
