Custom map suggestions for a LANparty

Hello everyone,

I just registered to this site to ask for your advice. We have another small LANparty coming up with a group of friends (10 people in total) and one of the main games we play is TF2. So far we've tried custom maps for a few times, but that was years ago. Since it would be nice to have some variation to the official maps, can you recommend me some good custom maps which would fit our criteria? I already checked some of the maps and generally the quality seemed very high, it's just that there are a ton of maps to consider and I'm not very familiar with the custom mapping scene in TF2.

Our criteria would be:
- payload or KOTH
- small and compact in size (for example Upward is a great payload map, but too large for 5v5 on a LAN; barnblitz is a more suitable map; something of the size of Goldrush Stage 1 would be very nice. For KOTH something like Harvest is perfect)
- visually pleasing and well done, without bugs
- tested and approved by the mapping community

We would choose about 10-15 custom maps. I appreciate your input and thanks in advance!

EDIT: A few clarifying details. We will be playing highlander mode "1". We have a mixture of people who are casual players and people who have some competitive experience in TF2. Custom maps allow to level the playing field among players, so to speak, apart from also providing some refreshing variety.

Glassworks is a custom map I've been working on designed specifically for Highlander, it's being considered for future inclusion in the UGC. Might work out well for you LAN party.

Alternatively (and less seriously), Trainsawlaser and Wubwubwub are always fun for a group of friends when you want to play something whacky, especially if people in your group haven't played it yet.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check those out.

Also, DM_duel was absurdly fun to play in a LANparty, if you have anything similar then you can recommend that as well.

koth_occult - a koth map in a jungle cavern, with a unique finale.
pl_boundary - a very snowy 4 cap payload map.
koth_rocktop - a koth map with a vertically focused point.

Thanks everyone, found some great maps already!

Final question: anything like DM_duel which I guess everyone here should be familiar with?

I love this map to death. It is very clean and streamlined, easy to figure out, and has a good length to its rounds. Its also a medium sized map and played well with only 4-6 players. I played this one at a LAN party with my bros who aren't even into custom maps and they loved it. I definitely recommend this for late night caffeine-fueled nonsense.

This seemed really interesting as well, we'll try it out at the LAN. Thanks.

Well since that's exactly what you were looking for, this is every map we have in the database starting "dm_". I sorted by file name and used trial and error to get to the first map starting with dm. Use the page arrows to scroll through them. Pages 87 and 88.

Oh, and for actual srs business TF2, I also reccomend the Showcase. :p

I found some other dm_duel variants there too, but the 4pack you suggested first seemed to be the best. I'm checking the maps at the Showcase as well, thanks. :)

The LAN is coming in the end of March, but I will give you an overview which maps we played and how they fared. :)
