Hey all
I found this place linked from the Source SDK wiki (I think). What I've read so far has been really useful, and I needed to get rid of that annoying "Why don't you sign up to get rid of this banner" banner, as well as being able to view some of the images in your posts. So here I am :)
I've not done much modelling stuff since I used to use Blender for a few game-related projects a few years ago. I tend to build stuff mostly for the fun of building it, rather than with a purpose in mind. That means I tend not to finish something before I move on to something else. So will I ever be able to complete an entire map? Who knows. I'm thinking of starting slightly smaller, and maybe having a go at some of the contests you run.
Right, that's me done for now. First post out of the way :)

Welcome to the site, check out the link in my thread, it's full to the brim of fantastic references on mapping.
If you've got a short interest span for creations I'd suggest starting with a small map, arena is naturally the smallest and easiest to make, CTF is next on the list for potential size and ease of creation (due to their typical symmetrical nature)
