Greetings Earthlings!

It's that time. We're finally winding down with the Mercs Vs. Aliens Mapping contest! Oorah!

This is the UPLOAD THREAD. That means, if you are submitting your map to the contest and hope to have a taste of that sweet, juicey, grace period. Your map needs to be in a working, non-fullbright state and posted in this thread by 7PM, November 10th, 2014.


If your map is submitted into this thread by the above mentioned time, you will be allowed to use one extra week to finish tweeking, polishing and other wise spit shining your map!

Please leave this thread for upload submissions ONLY, any posts beyond mine that aren't a submission will be promptly deleted and fed to the alien pet living in my basement. If you feel the urge to say something about a submission, or the contest itself, feel free to PM me on the forums, or leave a post in the main discussion thread.

Well, post-mortem

Well, they always say never to leave things to the last minute but sure did it get me racing around to make this the best darn map I could produce. With a day left to go I rushed out the optimization and if you ask me did a sloppy job at best. BUT turns out there was a day left, and somehow someway I managed to make what I believe is a map tot he best of my ability.

I've finally made the swamp-themed map I always wanted to do and in a measly month and a half. It's hard not to feel an incredible sense of pride of making the psuedo-horror Swamp themed map that I had spent years thinking of in classes while bored, or even proud about introducing something as fun as jump-pads to an already locked meta.

I'd like to thank Tumb, Aly, Metroid-Man in particular with this and anyone else I annoyed with my constant questions and jabber in the chat or on this site.

Vote for who you all think deserve it guys, it was a short hell of a ride and I hope you guys will look past the cinematic-gameplay experience and enjoy yourselves in the voting process!

I think I found out why people have been having problems with soundscapes lately since the thing same has been happening on watergate with the overrides on powercore models. It seems that if you reload a map that uses overrides (soundscripts, soundscapes, pack overrides) then the overrides will break for you. So for instance if you play watergate twice in a row then the powercore models might not show up (changing to a different map and coming back seems to fix this sometimes - 5 out of the 6 times I tried).

Horrendous isometric screenshot I made the other night while playing around with that feature...I had hoped it would turn out nice, but if anything the three levels makes it moderately worse:

This map has become a mess that I don't have time (contest time) to fix. So I'm going to go ahead and pull it now. Was fun trying to finish it up these last few weeks, and now I've got a base that I've got lots of plans for (that don't align with the contest theme anyway). Not that my map was much competition.
