Alright, lets not mess this one up.

Straight to the point:
  • Do we want a winter 72hr contest?
  • Theme? Want it or not? If want it, I'll open a thread up for theme suggestions, pick the best ones (like, based off thanks or something), throw them into a poll and then have everyone vote on it. I might make the poll private so only I can see it, so there is that element of suprise (or I'll keep it public and erryone can see it).
  • Date! When do we want it. I'm thinking late December or early January like last year.
  • Any modified rules? (Medieval mode is already allowed, turbo).
  • No, it won't lead into a major contest (unless you want it to).

Aiight, short, sweet, simple. This one is for you guys.

Yes.

Theme is fine, as long as we have a decent one, and sourcing it from ideas is a good way to get that.

Late December or early Jan is fine for me.

I think the rules are solid as they are apart from that.

No leading into major contest, please.

- Yes
- Yes, but it better be good this time. Could be a shape or object, even a simple action. Most importatnly, if a theme is going to be used, have one that can be interpreted in many ways.
- Late December / January
- The rules are ok

  • Yes.
  • No theme, unless we can do a Ludum Dare style thing. (Some people might still be disappointed about the chosen theme though)
  • Early January / after Christmas period is fine, considering that a lot of people who are still in education would have their winter breaks.
  • Rules are fine.

What about an optional theme? Doesn't necessarily give any points if you incorporate it, but you get a pat on the back and maybe people will vote for it if you implement it really well. If you don't want to, just aim for a solid map.

Early-ish January would work best for me. Optional theme sounds cool, something to maybe kickstart ideas but not something that we're going to get points deducted for because the judges interpreted it in a different way.

I want to say no. Just a few words feels really thrown in and crap to me (no offense). Most of the time people just do whatever they were already doing and shoehorn their reason for it being themed.
Sure I'll go on a date.

Not really bothered when. Date doesn't affect me as much as it does other peeps.
Any modified rules? (Medieval mode is already allowed, turbo).
Nothing comes to mind.
No, it won't lead into a major contest (unless you want it to).
It should lead up to the first Super Yiffy Shipping Thread-sponsored TC Contest.

Yes, these 72hr contests actually motivate me to get things started.

Theme should be "gameplay".

Time doesn't matter to me. In all likelihood it will be hard for me to "fully" participate no matter the date.

Rules seem fine.

No major contest spring board.

Not sure how much weight my opinion has since I don't enter the 72 hour contests, but why even worry with theme at all? Seems like theme and detailing are the first things people skip or cut corners on to meet the deadline.

At the time, they seemed like a good idea. Something like Ludum dare.

I like the idea of the theme being "innovation", but the fact that it gets judged one way or another means that it's a worthless theme.

Please no ridiculous and terrible theme this time.

Having an optional theme is as worth as having no theme at all. I'd WAY rather have no theme at all than a restrictive, ambiguous, or messed up one.

LD needs themes because of the nature of games. A game can be about ANYTHING. Not so for a map. You still need something to walk on, an objective, and if I'm not mistaken it needs to be fairly normal i.e. playable in a pub or comp setting rather than some weird out-there crap.

Yes

Why not a poll with a couple themes and ''no theme'' being an option?
Although personally I don't see why themes being optional is a bad thing at all.

Early January
Same rules

-Sweet buttery hotness yes
-I like themes. It feels like it brings the contest together and gives it more of a purpose as opposed to just plain mapping. Themes need to be broader though such as "ice" or "snow" or "arctic" so they are more aesthetic focused I feel.
-Sooner the better, I still haven't slept since the last one

This was an option I had strong considered. What do people think about this?

I ask for themes, pull out the most thanked or something (thank whoring awaaaay), poll 'em with a 'no theme' option.

No, I'm awful with themes. I take them way too literally.

Early January.

Nope. If you can let some people start early (if the dates are inconvenient) like usual, I'm sure that would be appreciated.

No, it won't lead into a major contest (unless you want it to).
I'd prefer if it didn't. I like the 72hr contests being standalone. Makes them seem more important. :)

Obviously yes, these contests are always interesting.

If you are going to be making a theme, have it be something extremely open to interpretation. For instance, one I just came up with now: 30 degrees. Does this mean angled walls? maybe some 30 degree roof implementations, or possibly it means temperature? In which case if you are using Fahrenheit it is below freezing, where as 30 Celsius it pretty hot. Imagine what maps a theme like this could generate! If there is going to be a theme, make it a broad one.

I'm cool with January or whatever time works for anyone else.
