My idea is that the community could come up with their own little mini-competitions in the down time between regular competitions. Some rules to be set up:

1: Can't just be- make a map. That's boring.

2: At least 4 people have to agree to try the competition in order for it to be worth anything. Otherwise it is null and void.

3: You have to at least attempt your own contest. Don't make a contest to watch people suffer for your own sick amusement.

I think this idea would work because we all have Ideas for contests, and a lot of the newer mappers want to enter contests, but are afraid to because they fear they aren't good enough. Also, a lot of the ideas that people might have for contests might be to "out there" to be an official contest. So this is just me spitballing the idea.

Do something similar to the mountainlab/mann manor comp set by valve. Have a basic shell set up by someone, and then have everyone detail it, keeping the main setup the same.

We have plenty of community minicontests. The problem is this year, we've been chockablock full of Major contests. When I approached Frozen, wanting to run my own, in like, January, he told me to wait till after Mercs vs Aliens.

I have an idea that's not really a contest but doesn't deserve its own thread, and since there seem to be people who care in this one, here it is:

Make a basic map using dev walls. Split it in to quarters and put each in a separate VMF. Give one of the VMFs each to four mappers and tell them to detail it any way they like. Then when they are done, someone collects them and turns them in to instances, then compiles map. It would be a kind of game.

Yeah... we sorta already do this. We've had several detailing contests, 72 hour contests, and other random one-offs that are all unofficial not-TF2M-ran things.

^This.

Winter 72hr, Tale of Two Skillsets, Summer 72hr, Mercs vs. Aliens. I'm probably missing a couple mini-contests in there as well. I like the idea of more unofficial contests, but I think a lot of our members have been staying busy with everything going on these past several months.
